I suggest actually reading the reviews.  Most of them decry the movie for the very reasons that it works for others.  It's a confrontational movie, and critics don't seem to like it.  As the review says:

Haneke always intended Funny Games as a rebuke to American films specifically, since Hollywood is the primary purveyor of violence-as-entertainment worldwide, and he now has a chance to insult them in much larger numbers.

Just got back from seeing it. It's pretty much exactly like the original, shot for shot. There's no bizarre intercutting like in Van Sant's Psycho remake or any changes to the ending. The film is definitely not for everybody and will probably be hated by the majority. It is created for the sole purpose of making you leave the theatre with a hollow spot where your heart used to be. It is torture porn with style and substance (the anti-Saw).

All the actors suit their roles well and I forgot how well drawn out a lot of the shots were. The dialogue also seemed a bit awkward at times but it fits into the overall style of the film. It's also one of those rare remakes where I can tell someone that they don't have to see the original before they watch this one (though I still recommend you should see it).

Just got done watching it.  I never saw the original so I have point of reference as to how it holds up but I was amazed how Kubrick-esque it all was.  Outside of the two moments where the kid looks directly into the camera and asks the audience their opinion, I could almost be led to be believed that this was infact a lost Kubrick film.  It's like a fleshed out version of the home invasion scene in Clockwork.

Still don't know what my opinion on it is though.  It's certainly....something.

Haneke feels very Kubrick at time--I thought the same thing--but he's self-indulgent, but not in a good way.  Kubrick was definitely a self-indulgent director and all, but he didn't really pick look at me, I'm a smarty man themes for his movies.

I ended up seeing this because I was looking over the generally bad reviews of The Strangers, and several of them recommended Funny Games as a far-superior home invasion film.  Ironically Funny Games was just as (if not more) hated by critics as The Strangers.  They are both at like 30% on RottenTomatoes right now.

Both the villains were very well done, and it's a pretty crazy ride.  I didn't really care for the Mom's near-escape though.
