I think I've been reading GAF and its predecessor GEO since late 1996 or so, but I'm not sure when I first actually signed up for the forum. But there are definitely people here who I've 'known' since 1995 from Usenet newsgroups and such.

I was browsing GAF too, and I saw the "TERRORISTS BLOW UP WTC" thread title, thought "eh, no way that literally happened, must be some dumb forum game", and seriously just passed it by and spent an hour or so browsing other threads before I happened to turn on the TV.
