Yip. I tried out Firefox 2 when it was still in beta, but I found a lot of my extensions not working properly. And Firefox without extensions is worthless.

It's extremely fast. Pages load much quicker with it than with IE7 for me.

Unfortunately, Foxytunes doesn't seem to work. I love Foxytunes.

It auto-imported my bookmarks and extensions. It also told me which extensions didn't work with it and let me check for updates that were compatible with the beta.

Adblock Plus
DownThemAll
Downloadhelper
IE Tab
FoxyTunes

Firefox told me that DownloadHelper and IE Tab weren't compatible with the new version, but it let me check for updates for them. It then downloaded compatible versions of the extensions.

FoxyTunes is a no-go, though. Not a surprise, however, since the extension hasn't been updated since August.

All I use is Download Statusbar and the Save Image In Folder, add-on/extension.

The latest beta is stable, very fast and has a lower memory footprint; I'd say go for it if FF is your main browser. IME you can turn off the extensions-checking and not encounter any serious problems, so why not?

Like all beta software, it has it's ups and downs. Whenever the final Firefox 3 comes out it will be better than IE7 I think. Right now, I'm having too many problems with routine shit to really like it, such as submitting shit on Blackboard and watching videos on ABC.com. You know, shit that the IE 8 beta can still do.

In other words, the dumbass tech people on campus seem to think that people upgrading to IE7 will have compatibility problems, so they've sent out an email to all students to keep IE 6. They are full of shit.

the thing that fucked our tech department with Blackboard was a total lack of communication between branches of IT.

We've got our computer labs running with Java 6, and our version of Blackboard only supports Java 1.4/1.5. Worse yet, our networking department refuses to do anything with Java over active directory, even though I've shown them papers from Sun.com explaining how to upgrade/remove Java with AD.

When this shot was taken my friend was using downthemall in one tab on a medium sized page of pictures.

Edit: The pictures were less than a gig in total.

And how is your memory usage shooting through the roof while using an addon to download ~700(?)mb of pictures an indicator of Firefox performance in any way? I did get memory leaks every few weeks or so, but never to that extent. I think the highest mine went was 300mb. I had left the browser open all day with 4 tabs while playing WoW.

# of tabs open at once actually doesn't have much effect on Firefox's long-term memory usage, at least with the 1/2 versions. The problem is that FF didn't free memory properly when tabs are closed, so I get about the same behavior from 200+ tab research sessions as from just channel surfing in a few tabs all day.

i've been using fire fox for the longest time till i got fed up with the "FIREFOX CRASHED LOL CLOSE PLZ", then i switched to IE7 and it's much better.

now IE7+IE7Pro is my main browser and FF2 is for everything IE7 can't open or won't open properly, and for downloading from megaupload.

can't wait for IE8.
