This adaptation of The Virgin Suicides is worse than even I expected. At least the soundtrack is great. Does she not know how to direct actors?

She gets some visuals right, but she appears to be completely missing things that made the book awesome. I will reserve full judgement until I finish the movie though.

Why is the acting so terrible, though? I just watched like 10 episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Danny DeVito was doing better acting in that than he was here. Some of the editing is really cut close and terrible, too.

I had to turn it off. That was absolutely horrible. Sofia Coppola is the worst director making movies today. That was RUINING my fond feelings for the novel. I hope that fucking whore gets AIDS and dies.

What? I love LIT and think MA is pretty darn good too. At least I dont like Forrest Gump. Never seen Virgin Suicides, so I cant add anything to this thread really, aside from saying that Coppola isnt a terrible director, as some would have you believe. Neither is she a great one, as another sect would have you believe. She is a competent director who gets too much unwarranted flak AND praise, from different groups, solely for being FFC's daughter.

As much as I'd like to support you, these Bill Murray playing Bill Murray roles got old by the time he took his second crack at one.

The Virgin Suicides is much much worse than LIT. I wouldn't even subject myself to Marie Antoinette. Since it involves butchering a famous, misunderstood historical figure, it might offend me as much as the hack's grotesque butchering of a future literary classic, though. This was reall bad. At least with LiT it was her own shitpile.

Lost in Translation is good.

However, the Virgin Suicides is an epic disappointment. The only thing I really enjoyed about the film was the Heart in the soundtrack. That's about it. Totally agree with TVC on this one, Sofia Coppola had some good luck once, but overall she sucks.

Watch The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Broken Flowers for more of that deadpan Bill Murray shit. The guy has discovered a one-note performance that makes the critics horny for him, and he's milking that shit for all it's worth.

Pretty awesome? There wasn't one good performance in that movie. It was all hammy and obvious. And there were some legitimately good actors in there. Sorry, dumbass, I didn't hate it because the internets told me to. I hate it because I'm a fan of the book and it is goddamn horrible.

And I've hated the second indy film long before the internet. Just because you're a sheep that needs to read the internet to get an informed opinion on something doesn't mean everyone else is. Project your personal inadequacies elsewhere.

The second Indy movie has some good scenes, but it's a pacing disaster. The opening is great, and then everything leading up to the actual temple is too slow, and then the stuff in the temple is way rushed. I guess the last third of the movie is pretty good, too.

Also, Kate Capshaw is a shrieking fucking whore.
