Not even 13 days ago we received our complete clearance and a letter telling us that we were being passed on to the placement office. Today, I e-mailed our coordinator to ask what our deployment date was. Both my wife and I are trying  to find employment for the 4-10 months between now and our proposed deployment date. I asked her if June-September was still the proposed window. I've already had to turn down two job offers because I don't know if I'll be in the country for more than 6 weeks. So, I e-mailed our coordinator and I got an e-mail back from some guy I've never met, spoken with or heard of. His words? In short: "I decided to torpedo your application! Sorry! Bye!".

I am just out of my mind with anger, completely confused and disgusted. I've spent the last year of my life bending over backwards, snapping in half and reconfiguring my life, my person and my attitude to suit the whims of this process and now at the 11th hour I get an e-mail- an E-MAIL- not a phone call, not a letter, a copy and paste form letter that ruins every step I've taken. I'm just bewildered, this is completely out of left field. I've spent literally thousands of dollars of the dental, the medical and the expenses for the wedding required to get this far. And now, in the blink of an eye, it's just. Gone.

I have to call tommorrow, get some accountability, but in the meantime I'm just. I've never felt legitimately surprised before, this kind of. True shock, like the floor opened up, like the sun didn't rise. It's just without precedent, truly shocking. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

We have a few friends and friends of friends who are higher up in the ranks of government and PC stuff and they're going to make some phone calls for us and see what they can do.

The e-mail I got was exceedingly vague and only said that they'd decided not to "invite" us. There were no reasons listed, no accountability to be found. We'll be calling him tomorrow to discuss the issue, but it's hard not to just call his voicemail and leave a tirade.

There is only one issue that I can think of. Back in July, we had decided to get married. We didn't tell my wife's father and her step-mother because they actively opposed our relationship and had interfered in the past. We figured we'd go ahead, get our interview over with and then tell them. Her Mother, my parents, and our extended families were all in full support. However, due to a clerical mix up, our PC coordinator at the time e-mailed Mary's step-mother, thinking it was Mary, with details about our wedding date, etc etc. Her step-mother called the coordinator and it caused some concern. We were understandably upset as it was a complicated situation as well as an issue of privacy.

We all discussed the issue at length and moved on. If it turns out that this is the issue that caused the disturbance, I'd appreciated to have found out about this, oh, in JULY and not almost a full year later. They also should never had passed our application on. What happened is highly unusual, it's just a gross bureaucratic mess and it makes me angry that no one said a word to us for a year, no one indicated that there was a problem and then all of a sudden MEGATON.

Anyway, one day at a time. We're going to talk to the guy tomorrow, then see if we can't pull some strings and go from there. We've made this our #1 priority forever, it'd be a shame to just let it go.

Yeah, you should really raise a stink about this.  Contacting your representative/senators can be surprisingly effective.

In the meantime, some reading material to cheer you up:

they probably think you've brainwashed someone's daughter into marrying you and now wish to disappear with her into the peace corps.
