While industry and corporate sales were up - all genre sales were down except for casual, social and family gaming genres.  Need to focus more on Wii and that demographic, as well as satisfy the R6V2 demo.  Evilbore make sad face. :(

Possible new trade-in value system in the works - percentage based  on the retail price from the date of purchase.  Nothing concrete, but folks want it to happen.  Folks that can make it happen!

Demo = demographic.

The biggest news is the possible new trade-in value system.  It might be rolled out as an offer to see if it works.  But basically, you'd get a percentage of what you paid for a game that would decrease the longer you kept it.

Would that only apply if you bought the game from gamestop? That sounds interesting.

Of course.  Nothing official, nor it is going to happen in the immediate future.  It's in the works - heard from higher ups.  I think it'd be awesome.

Hardly surprising re: genres, casual gamers don't buy enough games which in turn means they don't trade in as much.

The new trade thing is interesting, obviously the plan is to get people trading in regularly. Whilst you might lose $5-10 trade on some customers, if you get a good group trading in every few weeks you can make up for it.

So does this mean that if you buy a $60 game 3 months after release, and try to trade it in after a month, you'll get more trade-in value then the guy that bought it when it first came out, and tries to trade it in at the same time?

No, it'd be like, if you bought it for $60 at the date of purchase, you'd get 80% of that cost in store credit if you traded it within seven days, 70% within fourteen days, 60% within thirty days, etc.

I'm not kidding, they're talking about facing out Go Pets: Island Vacation, Diary Girl and SingStar 90s just as much as RAINBOW SIX VEGAS 2.  Thanks, Wii owners and mascot fegs!

Singstar/Eye Toy/Buzz are already massive in Yurop and Australia. Those Ubisoft Petz games are huge on DS.

It was only a matter of time.

Those are just arbitrary numbers thrown around - I have no idea what the actual percentage will be.  But the goal is that you'd get more for your game in store credit, so that folks can turn around and trade in those new retail games.

Also you'd end up with new release titles traded in within weeks, so they can push those over new versions with lower margins.

But if you're targeting casual gamers, they don't pick things up on new release, they don't usually buy at full price and they don't trade them in after they're done since games like Singstar/Wii Sports/whatever are party games that don't age. This trade policy isn't for them.

Basically the hardcore are going to fund the casual :gloomy

I would expect traditional video game revenue to increase.  Both HD consoles launched at historically high price points and as such mainstream success of either has been stifled.  We forgot how much traction the PS2 gained when it started dropping under $199.  It doesn't have to be zero sum game, regarding casual games either.

You should be thanking Sony for screwing the pooch and letting Nintendo right back in the drivers seat. I do.  :lol

BTW, Jesus only sold 3,000 copies on his release date, but his LTD is huge.

So you need to keep your receipt if you want to trade shit in? Or is there going to be a dated sticker on the case?

This doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. Trade in values now are determined by demand, no? I mean I traded in an extra copy of Zelda: TP last month and got 20 or 25 for it + extra because of some promotion (I traded in a shitton). If you start giving out values based on time held, there will be no incentive to trade in older games that (often) have larger trade in values because of supply...

It seems like bitch slapping the invisible hand.

y2kev... You're overthinking it.  Outside of 30 days or if you did not purchase the game at GameStop, it'll be the same as normal.  It's just folks buying crap within 30 days.

I'm not sure whether or not I'd rather play Go Pets or Rainbow Six Vegas 2, personally. Probably Go Pets. :yuck Tom Clancy games :yuck
