Persona 4

My hopes: Please don't be anything like Persona 3. Persona 3's my favorite Persona and favorite SMT, but it would be overkill if we get another in the Persona 3 formula. I want a traditional Persona with Kaneko designs, modern setting, return of guns as main weapons instead of stupid traditional weaspons, and less cute-syfied Persona overall.

Isn't Persona 4 going to be for PS2 as well?

I bet it uses the Persona 3 engine and everything and is done on the cheap.

I think it's gonna be PS2 and wii....

But Atlus can be successful with low budgets on ps3 and 360 if they have to be I bet. Disgaea was pretty successful on ps3 considering how cheaply it was made.

Since next gen is a non event in Japan and Wii only moves Nintendo games anything outside of PS2/DS would be utterly amazing.

I've explored 200 floors in Persona 3. Persona 3: FES has 200 extra floors. I have managed 15 + social links.

Persona 3's idea was great, but it's not something that yields itself to multiple games. It's the type of thing that'd get old fast. Plus, no Kazuma Kaneko designs, and if it's like P3, that means it wont' be as dark as past games. I just wanted something different is all.

- The game takes place in the country side away from the cities, which is interesting for SMT
- the theme is mystery suspense (:o P2-esque please)
- Supposed to be a mystery full of twists and turns
- There is a weather system and whenever there's fog, a murder happens
- 1.5 x the size of P3
- multiple endings
- 60-70 hours

Yes, Japan spends all its lolicon energies on inappropriate fetishization of actual underage girls, so there's none left over for PS3 and its ilk.  In the west we've learned not to indulge in those vices, and divert our lolicon to the loliconsoles.

changes from p3

1. No moon cycle. This is a very big change for SMT, because the moon cycles have been important in pretty much every one, right?

This, however, is GREAT for Persona 4 for a few reasons. This means that since things are entirely based on weather, things won't be predictable. This is just a guess, but you won't be able to prepare for the monthly boss by just going to the dungeon one night before the event and say fuck it the rest of the month.

2. There's no Shadow Time. In one part they show the crew in a dungeon "after school", in one part they're there at "daytime" which was during summer break since it was during July 29. What does this mean for the formula? Will it be possible to skip school in P4?

3. There's more than one dungeon and they're all unique to each other. Here's hoping there's meat to them. I'm talkin, puzzles and TRAPS SMTN style. My buddy noticed an underground lab, a strip club, and a castle mansion.

4. Characters can now help each other up if they are knocked down.

5. You can now control more than just the main character. In one part of the trailer, I showed you in control of the red head dude. Either that was the red lights shining on the main's hair, or you can control them.

SMT is the main series. There are 4 entries: Shin Megami Tensei 1, 2, ...If, and 3.

All the other seires are there to compliment the main series and help add new features to it. The most popular side series are:

Devil Summoner - Devil Summoner, Soul Hackers, Devil Summoner 3
Persona - Persona 1, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, Persona 3
Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2

These series are not connected at all aside from things the hardcare fans would notice.  aside from the two Persona 2's and DDS', which ARE connected.

Starting with P3 is the best way because 1. it is completely different and enough to interest someone in the SMT series 2. it's not nearly as rare as SMT3 or DDS. 3. It's more story based than a traditional SMT so it'll be easier for someone used to other jrpgs to get into, thus, making the transition easier.

SMT games are like Final Fantasy's. They're like, never connected. There are things that universal in all of the games, like certain themes, certain gameplay elements (the moon cycles), but they are never connected story wise, aside from P2 and DDS1+2.

I think you'd like P3, FA. It's by far one of the most unique jrpg experiences I've ever had and I've played lots. It has a certain "one more day" element, similar to Civ fan's "one more turn" thing. It's not for everyone, but at the price of 30 dollars, I think it's worth a shot.

Alot of the "one more day" component comes from hack design decisions that disallow action for days on end.  smh.

Yup.  What the fuck is with only being able to go into the dungeon once or twice a week?  More dungeon crawling, less shitty high school interaction.

Also, the dungeon crawling kind of sucked ass.  Not much variety at all.

At the very beginning of the game, your guys need to rest a lot. But once you hit level 5, they rarely ever get tired and you can mostly grind to your hearts content. Once I hit level 5, my guys got tired maybe once or twice to the point I forgot they could get tired unless someone at the beginning of the game was bitching about it. I played 100 + hours of P3 and I only had trouble with that in the first 5hours.

Genghis: it means that it's not exactly bad design. It's a trait of sim games. You do one thing at a time during a specific period, and you have to choose what you do in order of importance. It's not bad design because it requires you to think about a schedule, instead of doing things randomly. Maybe it just isn't your type of play style.

So going by the trailer, I'm going to assume that P4's main can't use multiple Persona like P3's main. That's good and bad to me. I love having to equip a Persona for a few reasons. This keeps you on your toes, and makes things more strategic. If you got jumped by a Shadow that used ice magic and you had a Persona weak to ice equipped at the time, you'd be fucked in P3. That was awesome.

Oh well.

It's really not even a dating sim. You just hang out with people to strengthen your Persona. Near end game, it's pretty much nothing but grinding because you've got over 50-100 floors to cover. If you like a persona, up its rank. That's all there is to it.

I don't think it is a Mystery Dungeon clone. It's all about making it to the top and fighting bosses. Some of the bosses can be REAL tough.

I agree that the dungeons are primitive, because they are. They're bare bones. But when the fighting is as good as P3's, I really don't care. Sometimes I would challenge myself on purpose, by splitting my team up, and fighitng tough enemies all by myself. I think it has a lot going for it, primitive dungeons and all and I'm glad that P4 is spicing things up by giving us more than one dungeon.

Plus, the game's dungeon has a lot going for it even if the you're just clearing floor after floor. There's Death, who you can tackle. There's the red Shadows which make fights more interesting because they're MUCH stronger enemies compared to everyone else. There's Gold Shadows which drop TONS of loot but are extremely hard to hit and rare, to boot. There's Elizabeth's quests, which give you awesome stuff, and even allow you to make new powerful Persona.

So even if the dungeons themselves are barebones, there's enough to like.
