I'm at the battle with Credo. This game is not as good as DMC3.

Also, what is this horseshit that every time I die on this boss and want to retry, I have to run like 30 seconds through two screens to get there? Haven't we moved past this? Jesus Christ, this is elementary game design. DON'T PUNISH THE PLAYER. If I want to retry, you should start me over at the beginning of the fight. Put the re-spec option on the continue screen, or put the re-spec/purchase statue DIRECTLY BEFORE THE BOSS FIGHT. I don't mean like, '30 seconds and two screens away'. I mean RIGHT FUCKING HERE. And then restart me RIGHT FUCKING NEXT TO IT. THIS IS BASIC SHIT PEOPLE, GET WITH THE MOTHERFUCKING PROGRAM. I understand 30 seconds really isn't very long, but to the player who just died and wants to get back into the fight, it seems like forever.

What's even worse is that I remember fighting Nelo Angelo in the original DMC for like 3 hours in a row on Dante Must Die difficulty. When you restarted, YOU RESTARTED JUST OUTSIDE HIS DOOR. THEY GOT IT RIGHT IN 2001, HOW ARE YOU GUYS FUCKING IT UP NOW.

Agree. He's a really cool boss with awesome patterns and great attacks. I love that you can use the devil bringer to grab his lances out of mid-air and you get rewarded with green orbs.

Goddammit this is TERRIBLE >< You can't get any perspective on the goddamn jump you're supposed to make from the top. Fuck this game. It's going back. Good combat system but the level design just fucking kills it. There have been tons of other places where this forced camera angle bullshit was bad, but this is just distinguished mentally-challenged - you just have to get lucky to make this jump.

Agreed. I hardly consider myself a noob after having beat DMC and DMC3 on DMD level.

This game is simply not as good as 1 or 3. That is disappointing.

The original is the only one I could ever get into. Barely touched 3, played 4 even less. Same pretty much goes for "rival game" Ninja Gaiden. I'm on stage 3 in Sigma, that's as far as I ever got.

I must admit that these games are a bit of an acquired taste - either you've been playing action/platforming games for so long that something this hardcore is exactly what you're looking for, or it's not for you. That said, I like the genre.

I played through NG and liked it. Although it had cripplingly bad (controller-breakingly-soul-crushingly bad) camera problems, I suffered through it for the gooey action center. I can't get past DMC4's horrible level design though.

DMC1 is lousy how? It's actually the DMC with the best game design. Enemies don't just sit there, there is TONS of enemy variety, with awesome attack patterns, it's the HARDEST DMC, the weapns are far more balanced than in DMC3. Normal enemies aren't just GRUNTS and COMBO FODDER for the boss, they actually take, you know, skill to beat.

Yes DMC1 is lousy in comparison if you like style over substance bullshit.

I replayed DMC1 after DMC3 and it held up just fine.

Combo fodder, boring enemies, lack of variety DMC3 added to the series. WHY THE FUCK CAN'T I PLAY AS DANTE. Nero sucks. Easy as SHIT difficult for fucking poges. Stupid proud soul system. Horrible level design so far, missions 6 and 7 aside.

decided to play a few more missions last night in my conquest to finally beat the game. and well, the platforming is fucking ass. the only thing keeping me from tossing this into my dust pile is the combat. the credo battle was fun, it's just sad my boner deflated fast when i had to navigate through more confusing corridors and pathways right after the battle. agnus was a letdown considering how bad ass credo was.

10 more missions to go. hope i can make it all the way through. $:-\$

Who wants to go for S ranking when the levels suck anyways? I only go for rankings when the level design owns and I actually get a challenge out doing so. Mega Man Zero series is a prime example. I get nothing out of S rankings in DMC.

if you were going through the levels without continuing or using items, you'd have some s-ranks by now -- i wasn't playing for rank on devil hunter, and i got s-ranks on roughly half the levels. and i'm nowhere near as good at dmc as you claim to be. you're free to dislike dmc4, and devil hunter IS too easy, but you've made a HUGE stink about the difficulty when

a. you haven't tried bloody palace or the higher difficulty levels
b. your achievements hardly suggest that you're aceing it
