wait for the 360 demo (what's taking them so long anyway?) or play the ps3 demo if you can.

it's pretty much a watered down version of virtua tennis with fan service and "SUPERSTAR" abilities.  so basically, the more you rally, you build up your superstar meter.  once it's full you can unleash a special shot that throws off your opponent.  it's not guaranteed that you'll score because it only lasts for about 5 seconds or so.  the graphics are really nice, especially the re-created stages from sega games of old.

the gameplay feels a bit floaty.  then again, i was using beat who is one of the faster characters in the game.  all the characters have different stats so your experience may vary.  the amount of gameplay modes is pretty shitty imo.  the mini games so far aren't as fun as virtua tennis 3's and they don't do anything to enhance your character (afaik).  so far it's a pretty average game that they watered down for the "casuals."

blame wii fit.

I got the same impressions from the ps3 demo.  It's a bit too floaty.

Perfectly sums it up. The graphics and music are decent, though (for fan service).

I need to try the PS3 demo.  Too many negative comments about the game play have turned me off to just buying the game outright; I expected Virtua Tennis with a Sega fan-service skin, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

I didn't know there were enough Sega fans to make money off fan service  :'(

I played the demo and thought it was pretty bad, but the thought of playing tennis in the Outrun2 stage with Fat Flag Man ref'ing is kinda hot

I don't even care if the tennis is as shitty as Wii Sports. A game that combines Outrun, Samba, JSR and Space Channel 5 cannot be bad in my eyes.

HOLY FUCK THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER*

Right now I am playing as BEAT versus AMIGO on a SPACE CHANNEL 5 COURT with SPACE CHANNEL 5 MUSIC. MY MIND IS BLOWN.

The fly by of Shibuya before the JSR court is fucking phenomenal. Then on the JSR stage you have to spray tags, knock COMBO off the rail, or evade the police. So awesome, I need to play JSR more now.

You can choose your stage music at the start of each game. GREEN HILL ZONE <3

House of the Dead stage - Zombies end up with tennis racquet arms and THEY THROW THEM AT YOU. Brilliant.

The challenges on Sonic stages drop Sonic Powerups. SPEED BOOST~!

There's a motherfucking Golden Axe stage. It better be old school Golden Axe.

I got an achievement by hitting a Morolian with a ball.

WHO THE FUCK GAVE NIGHTS A GAY VOICE?

This is the best game* EVER.

* disclaimer - the game is not as good as Virtua Tennis, the characters are floaty and to do a lob you have to hit X then A. Seriously. Do not expect this to be a perfect game of tennis. Do expect this to be a perfect simulation of being a Sega fan. Minus Shenmue  :'(

Haha, I'll be at this game for a while.  It's as playable as VT, except the AI seems a smidge easier, and some of the special abilities are really unbalanced.

I just unlocked the Golden Axe dwarf.  I almost shit myself when I saw his awesome special.

Also, so far it seems like they did pick decent characters.  Of course there are too many Sonic characters, but I guess that is to be expected.

Yep the AI is incredibly easy. Most of the time with a special shot if you hit a drop shot towards the edge of the court it goes off at 90 degrees and is unplayable.

There's too much Sonic. Even with the missions there's like 30 Sonic challenges but 2 Samba ones. However there's a truckload of JSR stuff.

OMG I just unlocked the Virtua Cop level. It's so fucking brilliant. JUSTICE SHOT~!

Also Demi should get this for achievements, it's basic. I've played 2 hours and I'm 42% through Superstar, once you've done that theres a few mini game ones then the rest are online I think.

I haven't found a bad one yet. At worst some of them are frustrating but only because you make a mistake or they take too long since they're so easy. The JSR perfect tag challenge is the best example, since you have to complete a tag without missing a shot.

It seems like even the worst challenges can be taken down with a few tries, at least so far.  My only complaint is the kinda crappy framerate on the levels that include either reflections or more complicated lighting.  Even on those levels, the game is very playable.  Still, there should be none of that.  This is not the Wii.

Finally finished Superstar mode. 100% complete in 6hrs, 610/1000 points, only 10 from online.

Highlights include:

- Outrun game over music playing after a match
- Outrun court with Passing Breeze & Magical Sound Shower & some remix from Coast to Coast
- Flag man
- Anything JSR/SC5 related
- After Burner court with cock rock
- Virtua Cop games are the best part

Lowlights include
- that cunt Alex Kidd
- Too much Sonic & co faggotry
- shitty hit detection on swings (or to be precise non-swings)
- not enough Samba
- no shenmue
