I love sandwiches. So easy to make and satisfying. A culinary staple loved by many. However, a truly great sandwich is only as good as the sum of its parts. Quality bread, premium meats and cold cuts--deli style preferably and no cellophaned wrapped cheeses here--crispy romaine lettuce and seasoned sliced tomatoes, with kosher salt and freshly ground pepper on both sides. Dressing your sandwich can be up to you. I love oil and vinegar. Mustard and mayo is also great, so is pesto. It could be your choice.
But my absolute favorite is the Cuban sandwich, a pressed sandwich on a simple white italian style loaf with roast pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard. There several variations but that is the basic template.

Here are some tips from my favorite home cook Mark Bittman on how to take your sandwiches to the next level.
