Is the Zune a decent mp3 player?
« on: March 27, 2008, 09:21:40 PM »
I'm looking for a mp3 with a nice size screen for watching movies and alot of storage space for my music collection. Preferable something I can afford without selling my limp and organs. I was looking at the Creative zen but the hdd size is still relatively small and I hear they are problematic-- is the 80g Zune a good alternative? Does the Zune still have folder and software mishaps? And is it realitive hasslefree to transfer videos onto it?

They're fucking sick. The software shits all over iTunes as well.

I use my old 30GB for all my P2P music because I use iTunes to organize my complete albums.

:heartbeat my Zune.

My favorite thing is when I'm taking a road trip, I set it up in front of all my gauges and stuff in my dashboard and watch a movie or two... only at night though otherwise there is too much glare

Second favorite thing is that the screen doesn't scratch  :hump

Third favorite thing, Zune Pass.

Zune's great. The store is fine for the few times I've actually used it. Your searches will include albums that are no longer available though, that's annoying.

The audio quality is very good, the screen quality is decent, the software is ok, and the shuffle sucks.

The shuffle DOES suck. I haven't used a single MP3 player or program that gives me a good shuffle. Same fucking songs every day.

I got "Desolation Row" again today! It's a 12 minute song--why do I keep hearing it? Meanwhile I may have heard "Like a Rolling Stone" just once on the shuffle. I also seem to hear Weezer a lot, yet I only have like six of their songs on my Zune. Not that I mind.

Do these Zunes/Zens/iPods alll require to convert the mp3's into their own special format before they can be transferred to the device?

cause that kinda sucks

It was a fucking nightmare when I had like 20 songs from The Pillows from P2P playing through Winamp. I have over 200 songs, and I'd hear like 5 or 6 Pillows songs every damn day, and pretty much nothing else. It drove me insane. I haven't listened to The Pillows in a good three years because of that.

I think so, but I don't think it's required. I didn't have an mp3 player before I got Zune as a gift.

Ipods could play normal mp3 as does iTunes.  If you buy songs from the iTunes Music Store they are drm AAC format @ 128kps.  They only play on iPods.  You can purchase non-DRM AACs from their iTunes Plus store.  Only a few labels participate, though.  The recent hotness for buying music online is Amazon.  Non DRM mp3 playable in any mp3 player @ 256kps.  The only issue is their catalog.  It's not as extensive as iTunes for independent stuff yet.
