I haven't been to the South much but their women seemed to be more warm and genuine than West Coast women. Also, their accents and jargon were surprisingly cute.

For variety California does have more, but the South has BBQ, Friend Chicken, Corn Bread, Mac and Cheese, Pull Porked, Cajun and Creole Cuisine stalwarts like Gumbo and jambalaya, catfish, crayfish, Texas brisket. and on and on.

Gonna have to agree with the FOOD!

Having a bunch of variety of foods isn't all that special California. What types or styles of food have actually come from Cali? The south has grits, bbq, Cajun, fried chikums... YUMMY

Texas BBQ is awesome.

You do owe it to yourself to try a eastern North Carolina style BBQ sometime. It's like totally different than either Texas or Kansas City style, and it's really, really tasty. It's a vinegar and pepper based sauce instead of a tomato one, and exclusively whole-hog pulled pork, but generally superior to similar creations in other parts of the Southeast. I really enjoy it.

The best part of the South is easily not having to deal with snow regularly.
The second best part is the regular worship services of the Southeast's true god, college football.

Memphis is more of a wet rib sorta thing, at least from what I know. I think that they do have some pulled pork, but it's usually with a tomato-based sauce instead of pure vinegar and peppers (which to be fair still has some tomato in it, just not as much as what you would see in other places).

I wikipedia'd it-yeah, it's sorta close if you think about the pulled port+coleslaw+bun sandwiches, which is an NC staple and really is the ne plus ultra of barbeque preparation.

BBQ rocks, best part about going to work-related training in Huntsville for a week... pulled pork, baby back ribs, coated in spicy BBQ sauce, hush puppies, fried okra... southern and soul food kick ass, except collard greens (too bitter).
