DMC4 nub alert: wants playing tips
« on: March 30, 2008, 06:27:42 PM »
okay so Im going back to this after stopping on Level 4 due to buying Lost Odyssey and playing that instead

Just a couple of questions... should I be expecting to S rank a few stages just off the bat or do I need to upgarde skills/ health/ and combos first and then replay the stages? Also what percentage of orbs in the level do you need for an S grade in that category?

I would say the Orbs factor about one third to one fourth of your overall ranking.  The other elements are stylish points, clear time and damage received.  Your ranking will suffer if you choose to continue or if you use an item.  In the harder difficulties, the item penalty is not as severe.  Choose automatic if you want easy stylish points.  But as you become familiar with the combat system you will be pulling out SSS rankings with ease.

Try to make each run through a stage better than before and don't worry about S ranking stages until you at least complete the game once.  I got S ranks just by playing the game without any intention of getting them.  For Nero, get the Max Act ability as soon as possible as well.  Also upgrade the Blue Rose to the max and learn all his Red Queen Combos and tack on the Air Hike  Speed, and Snatch 2.  For me those were essential skills.

Don't worry about S ranks until you've finished the game once and have all the moves and purchased some upgrades

okay beat the game on Devil Hunter, now going through Human to try and pick up some S ranks.... seems kind of tough to get decent stylish points becuase the enemies die so quickly....

whos the best character to use on Bloody Palace?

That's up to you.  Which character are you more comfortable and which one do you enjoy playing with more?  I prefer Nero over Dante myself.

bumpsorzzz

Okay since Im a dirty poor Im going back to games to get more achievements and shit. I cannot, for the life of me get high scoring combos with Dante. I can pull off some cool looking effective shit but Im still spamming moves too much. Which guns/techniques/styles should I be stringing together for sweet ass stylish points?

plus you can't jump cancel with AUTOMATIC on.  but the combat system is so convoluted and distinguished mentally-challenged you should go right ahead, it's fun.

Automatic is garbage, and Nero shits on Dante. L3 charged shot is like the most powerful weapon in DMC history.

You just have to switch styles, use lots of different moves and devil trigger for SSS with Dante.  He has lots of weird moves that require timing and are a bit awkward to pull off...I recommend switching between Rebellion and Gilgamesh.  The bullfighter things are fun to use to, but are more of a novelty, imo.

Except for camera angles, NG2 kills DMC4 in every way.  NG2 is like 10x more epic than DMC4.  The world in DMC4 is so small and overall DMC4 just feels like a side adventure of Dante's.

how I'd love to agree with you, being a NG1 fanboy.  One playthrough was fine in NG2, but Bloody Palace and Legendary Dark Knight mode give DMC a fairly large edge.  Not to mention that OTs and enemy mobs ruined NG2.

It's not a huge win though...DMC wins by essentially staying the same, aside from the devil bringer.  NG2 loses for straying too far and having all kinds of technical problems.  Ideally both games would have improved greatly on the earlier versions, but that didn't happen.

it's too bad that ms decided to charge $10 for ng2 mission mode, because it's much better than the actual game

yeah, if I can find the game for like $20, I'll rebuy it and get mission mode.  For now, I just play missions in NG1.  Still haven't beaten the final set...that shit is impossible.  It's like NG2, but on the NG1 engine (no OT's, no dismemberment, enemies take more than 2 hits to kill etc.)  :lol
