Easy to do? I won't go to Vista unless it's absolute necessary

You can trick some games into doing DX10 stuff in XP but that doesn't work with every game and not every effect can be duplicated.  Most games still have DX9 modes so you'd still be able to play it.

Halo 2 and Shadowrun are the only Vista exclusive games that I can think of.  I've heard of hacks to play them in XP but I haven't seen those hacks around.  Also, the hacks won't allow you to get achievements or play online.

Vista it is then

I find dual booting to be the best option.  It's easy to do.  Install XP first, then Vista.

So I just use XP primarily, and Vista for my optional gaming

Good enough, I've got my pirated XP right here - just need Vista

You can't get Halo 2 achievements if you hack it.

I'll go with Arde's card since it is cheap. I can always dump it and get the GTX or higher if I see fit
Since it's EVGA you can use the step up program if the 8800gt isn't enough. It'll probably have to go through Arde0 though.

Arde said he would include Crysis, so I can try it anyway and troll it (pending on if it is playable)

It's gonna be playable, 25 fps during heavy firefights and ~20 during really intense firefights like tanks and choppers. There's also custom configs that changes settings around to optimize it further. Just make sure you turn on sunrays cause they're fucking gorgeous and it's a part of the very high settings that Crytek hasn't unlocked yet. It's a fun game though.

I sent you a pm Demi.

Crysis is boring as fuck (beatiful game though).  If you want the card I will throw in Crysis for free if you want it.

I always see your name as oreo.  You mind if I eat you?  :-*

Are there any Fry's near you?  They have some great CPU/MB bargains.  Sometimes, it's almost like getting the MB for free.

If not, this is a good choice.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127030

I use a 780I myself but I'm reluctant to recommend a Nvidia board. I went through motherboard and ram replacements three times already in less than 18 months.

I only stick with a NV motherboard because I use SLI.  Since you're just going to use 1 videocard, it's best to stick with Intel.

Stick with that Abit board then.  It's gotten great reviews from many sites plus it has a good rep for being stable.

There's a $30 rebate too.  It's cheap because manufacturers are moving towards DDR3.

I just got Arde0's 8800GT and Crysis

I ordered a Q6600 from Outpost.com (~$200)

Is this motherboard still good? It is next on my list.

I am buying this motherboard next... unless something else comes to mind

So here's the parts I've picked out so far.  i remember you saying that Intel boards won't run SLI but they'll do crossfire so that's what's up with the radeon card, seems like a sick deal for $170.  The one thing I'm missing is a hard drive.  I want a retail HD not some OEM junk but Tigerdirect doesn't have any nice retail WD's right now.  Could I just use a nice external with esata?

CPU:

Motherboard:

RAM:

GPU:

Power supply:

Case:

The external I was looking at is this:

It is great motherboard (the one I was using) as long as you dont use a Wolfsdale Core, which you obviously are not.  aBit has a great tool from controlling fan speed and on-the-fly overclocking.

*BUMP*

Motherboard and RAM are in-house

I have:

* CPU
* Video Card
* Mobo
* RAM

Need:

* Hard Drive
* Case
* Extras (DVD/RW, couple fans)

Any suggestions for a case? Any deals on some Hard Drives? What's a good brand? I have a Western Digital right now, should I stick with what works?
