Musou Orochi Rebirth Of The Demon Lord (A.K.A. Warriors Orochi *2*) Thread

The game just hit stores today in Japan, but people playing via other means (yarrr) have had it for a few days now, so there's already lots of information and Youtube footage available.  Good job, Koei...the PC version of the original Musou Orochi is still unreleased and the PSP version has yet to hit Europe...but bring on the sequel! 

This second Orochi offering feels a bit like a recyclefest-- art, menu screens, and music have all been reused from the original game.  There also seems to be less stages than before, too, since Koei dropped all of the gaiden stages. 

-You get five main story modes (Wu, Wei, Shu, Sengoku, and now Orochi), each with eight stages each. 

-A new dramatic story mode has also been added, putting premade teams into different situations.  This looks to take the place of the missing gaiden levels.

-There's also a new versus mode and a survival mode, where teams of three characters face off.

I'm about to dive into the game and see what's changed and what's new...anyone else getting this?  It's nice to see more modes of play added into the game, since the original felt pretty bare bones in this regard.

That's what Koei's benchmark tells me.  I didn't pull that number out of my ass.  360 FPS means I can finish the game 6x time faster than the PS2 version.

Versus mode and Survival mode use fighting game-style play mechanics instead of the usual Musou beat-em-up style.     It's like a tribute to the original Dynasty Warriors, which was a 3D fighter.

So it seems easier than the original game (on normal difficulty) so far.  I cleaned up on the first stage in Wu pretty damn fast, and unlike the original, wasn't getting juggled or bludgeoned to death by normal enemies.  Might have to bump it up to hard, because it was TOO easy.  Then again, that was just the first stage!

Don't bother with it.  Wait for Dynasty Warriors 7 or if they "fix" things with an XL version, get that instead.  If you want one of these kinds of games with superior visuals, try DW Gundam or one of the 360 ports of Samurai Warriors 2 or Warriors Orochi.

The DW 5 and SW 2 Empires on 360 are a lot of fun, I highly recommend them. Way more interesting than a straight up musou game.

it looks like it would be fuck awesome but it's not worth the full price at this point.  i don't want to play it on the ps2 since it would be 4:3 and musou games benefit greatly from 16:9 because of the map position.  it gives more space to see.  also it looks like it won't be progressive scan either and without a ps2 i have no upscaling, which makes it look pretty crappy on a high def tv. 

i really want to try out the new characters and i'd love to see the new modes.  it also brings added challenge for me translating the storyline so i can understand it, but i think i'll wait for the 360 version.  at $65 i would like to get something a little more.  besides, i can't trade in any of my japanese games in the neighborhood so i have no way to get any extra money.

Lyte's right, They nerfed the difficulty. I was able to handle a four star stage on hard with characters leveled 35-40 with minimal abilities equipped (like level 1-2 at most) I would have been raped on WO1 with those stats.

Mox, have you tried Dramatic mode yet?  I hear that's where the difficulty went to...play that and it's back to getting your ass kicked by footsoldiers.

Yeah, dramatic mode is where the fuck hard difficulty is at.

I beat the shit out of Lu Bu in one of the earlier stages...he's nothing compared to Son Goku.  That bitch is SUPER FUCKING FAST (on his cloud) and just NASTY.  Took everything to take him out.

Gracia, who I thought was useless in SW2 XL, seems decent now.  I'm mainly sticking with Fu Xi (he's amazingly good) and Tokugawa Iesyu for every level, though.

I tried it a little, with fresh characters, and thought it was funny because not even generic generals would stagger from my hits. I was waiting to unlock more of them before trying it.

What unlocks them anyways? I've completed wei story and some levels of the other stories but i still only have like 5 dramatic mode stages.

i'm not even sure why they make some of the costumes the way that they do.  why the hell would kojiro be a pale, sickly looking skinny kid?  when he was famous and when he fought musashi, he was an old, wisened, strong man that used a nodachi like it was a 3 ounce stick.  he was an amazing warrior.  then koei does him wrong by making him a goth bitch.  whatever.
