The sad thing is a lot of them have awesome guitarists/rhythm n bass sections. But I just can't get past the cookie monster vocals.

Yeah, I don't get it either.

I listen to Dream Theater a lot (a progressive rock band) and their new album has occasional death metal-ish vocals. I've tried to find some redeeming feature of this type of vocal but to no avail.

There's even a bit of that distinguished mentally-challenged "gigantic fire-breathing demon" voice. Sorry, I just find it funny.

I went to an In Flames/Iced Earth concert in Cleveland with a geeky metalhead friend of mine once that was pretty cool. Unbeknownst to me, Sasha and Digweed were playing across the hall (unfortunately the tickets for them were sold out and you couldn't go back and forth between the rooms, so I was pretty miffed but still had a good time). One of the In Flames people got pissed that the crowd for his concert wasn't into it and that the people in the "disco" next door were making more noise and going crazier.

Anyhow, I didn't mind what you posted, it's perhaps a bit too metal for my tastes (Dream Theater's metal side is about as far into metal as I go). I don't know the band - who is it?

True, only a few songs on the new album that are good. Have you heard the b-sides from the Mirror's Truth EP? There's one song on there, "Eraser", WOW it sounds more like something from around Colony/Clayman era. Should have been on the album.

They'll never make another album like Whoracle again :'(

Yeah Death and Black Metal are usually horrible. There are a select few good songs, but the rest is just garbage.
