Season 1 is awful. Some people try to excuse it as "campy" or something, but it's really just dreadful. Not a very good place to start.

Seasons 6 and 7 have plenty of redeeming episodes (well, 6 at least does). I don't recall anything worthwhile in S1.

No point in having the debate when the entirety of Season 2 is up on Hulu.com. Just start at someplace good.

I suggested watching season 1 for all the Master shit, and it also gives context to all the annointed one bullshit at the beginning of season 2 (which Willco has already watched). I also pointed out that it is funny to see how Xander is portrayed as a skater-type in the first eps (it may actually just be the first ep), but he quickly devolves into a loser. Plus, I think at least half or so of the eps are at least on par with season 2 filler quality.

I think season 1 is kinda fun because they clearly weren't sure what they were doing with the show.

Yeah, I watched the She-Mantis episode earlier. The show was so low budget that apparently they couldn't afford lights. Half that episode is in the basement and you can't see a damn thing!

If you only have access to season one, I might hold off until you have access to the better years. If you are stuck with just that one season, you will probably wonder what people are talking about in regards to the show's overall quality. Kinda like, I like season 1, but I'd only recommend it to people that are already fans.

I dunno, I've always liked season 1. The bad episodes are like terrible b-movies you'd see on USA Up All Night, and I find that kind of charming.

Don't let the early Buffy seasons put you off watching Angel --- Angel on Angel is nothing like Angel on Buffy. By Angel season two David Boreanaz has gotten about a hundred times better at... "acting" may not be the right word, but he's settled into a much more palatable schtick.

Buffy season one is fine. It's only half a season anyway.

also Prole and most of the fans be damned, Buffy Season 6 is one of the best years. among other things it has the best balance of arc and standalone episodes, and the best thematic development. only the finale is really disappointing.

the worst seasons are 4 followed by 7. and Angel season 5.
