When you've been going out with someone for a few weeks--you're not "dating," per se--at least not officially--but you're going out, and having a fun enough time, and maybe even making kissy face from time to time. But then whatever initial spark there was dies out, but you're still going out out of momentum and force of habit, and things get increasingly awkward and distant.
And then you have the moment at the end of a date where you say, "Well, I'll see you soon!" But you know it's a lie. What you really mean is, "I'm never going to see you again." And what's worse is that she knows that that's what you mean, and
you know that she knows. At least when relationships break up, it's long and drawn out and discussed and hashed out over and over again. With the Last Date, there is literally a moment when you have to admit to yourself that, honestly and absolutely, you are never going to see this person again.
