I've dabbled in 1 and 2 and didn't see the appeal of either. The first seemed like Banjo all over again and the second was like a shitty version of Ratchet. But I'm going to try 1 again, at least.

I'm also thinking about buying Sly Cooper.

meh. I don't like Jak II all that much but I thought Jak III was very enjoyable again. Probably my favorite Jak game. I also like how they wrapped up the story. That reveal might've been zany, I didn't see it coming

edit; nm there's an option to shift the screen, and it includes a 16x9 option. Pretty cool.

1st J&D is the most fun although the sequels have way better graphics.  

Naughty Dog knows how to make platforming levels better than Insomniac but too bad they don't just stick to doing that.  

2&3 had some great platforming action but you have to trudge through a lot of GTA-lite crap in between.

Jak and Daxter Ending

Jak is actually Mar, who is the son of Damas, the banished king of Haven City (Jak 2 and 3), who was sent to the past, who then comes back to the future, and Daxter is one of the legendary Ottsels that are actually the ancient Precursors

It's a rote platformer, but the animation's real nice and its still worth a playthrough.

Don't let the large amount of collectibles fool you, you can beat the game and get 101% in like 7 hours. So hurry up and do it, so you can play a real game like Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.

J&D was great in 2001 or whatever when it took all the great things from every good platformer ever and put them together. It was much better than Mario Sunshine.

Then Naughty Dog decided to go a different direction and failed epically.

I don't think J&D would hold up much better now. Sly Cooper is so much better.

This game is short as fuck, I stopped playing to go to the store and to watch an episode of Seinfeld and other stuff and I'm still at 18% already. Who says this gen is the origin of short ass games.

Anyway, I like it a lot. You can't do collectibles better than this. Every time you talk to some loser you get a mission on your subscreen so you don't forget, you know exactly how many of everything are in each area, etc. If Zelda or Crackdown did this I'd be more compelled to get all the stuffs.

I like it. Also the fish catching minigame blows, but I remember beating it for my cousin years ago so I can do it again.


There's no way this is better than Sunshine btw. It's a shame ND diverted from this, and then went for Uncharted.

I really liked Jak 1, it's by-the-numbers platforming but it does it well.  I have 2 and 3 sitting on the shelf but I never got around to starting them.

Sly 2 was better though, freakin' awesome.  Everyone says Sly 1 is better but I never got around to Sly 1 or 3.  And it's now against my religion to buy previous gen games because my backlog is stupidly out of control.

I havent touched a 3d platformer in years... last one I remember playing was Gex 3d-2 on PS1 (which was awesome. "let the orgy begin!")

They weren't. I've played all three. The first one was cool because it had linear levels like Klonoa. Some of the levels were really inspired, like the library level or the Voodoo Swamp level where you have to out run the monster. In Sly 2 & 3, they switched to an hub level design like the second two Jak games and added Sly's Shitty Friends.  It's alright, but the best parts where still the linear section like when you had to sneak through a building as Sly.
