My idiot friend possibly destroyed my hard drive, and I seek revenge. Is there a way I could fuck up his OS in an undetectable way, that would make it impossible for him to recover his stuff?

Well, I'm not sure if it is damaged, but I wouldn't be surprised. When I was trying to access my stuff through his computer, the asshole pulled out the connections to my HD while the computer WAS STILL ON!

Have you considered killing his wife, framing him for it, imprisoning him for decades without giving him a hint as to why, then releasing him only to set him up to bone his daughter?

Or you could do the ram timing thing.

You're right, before I made my post it could have been any of the several other movies where a man is imprisoned for decades without being given a hint as to why. Mea culpa. :P

Korean movies suck but spoiler tags should still be used as a common courtesy.

Sure, but they're rarely actually used for that purpose here. I click on all of them anyway 'cause you can't follow the conversation otherwise.

fuck with his bios settings, bump his ram timing down and fuck with his voltage settings

This, especially the voltage settings. When he watches a movie or plays games, the CPU will probably rev up a bit, overheat, and spontaneously reboot.

Set his machine to defrag and knock the hard drive as it's defragging. Hard.

Since this is a PC help thread, I plugged in one of my external hard drives wrong and it came up as a CD-ROM drive. I've since figured out the problem, transferred the files, and unplugged the hard drive.

Yet the non-existent CD-ROM drive is still there. I've tried everything my miniscule PC knowledge knows, and I can't get it to go away. Tried going into Disk Management to delete it. It's not there. Tried Device Manager, it's not there.

I need E: for the OTHER FUCKING EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE GO AWAY CD-ROM DRIVE

Shut down everything, unplug the power cable and then reset the bios upon turning it back on again.

So yeah, I had already tried shutting down, but I forgot to unplug the power cord.

Anyway, doesn't taking out the battery reset the BIOS?? I did that, and it's still there. I'm just distinguished mentally-challenged.

Go to device manager In Windows and uninstall the device that you don't want.

If you're gonna do that, you might also want to switch the bios jumper to reset.  I was talking just talking about resetting the settings to default during startup though.

non-existent CD-ROM drive could be made by programs like alcohol.

edit: http://www.google.com/search?q=non-existent+CD-ROM+drive+&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1

I did that already. Let me look through the results again, I guess.

And I've never installed anything like alcohol on here. It's definitely from plugging in that fucking hard drive with the wrong USB or something. I don't know why there's two. jdklafsdf

So you fixed it?  If not, try the below options.

Look for something like "load default settings".  Every bios should have one of those.

Did you try right clicking on the drive in "My Computer"?  Pick properties.  Select the hardware tab, look for the troublesome drive and click on properties again.  Then uninstall or disable the device.

On that note: I contacted Comp USA yesterday, told them about my computer running into the same problem again, etc. What do they suggest? Another fucking motherboard. It was replaced just a couple months ago, I doubt that's the problem. Currently the fan will come on whenever I push the power button, but nothing comes up on screen. I've switched the RAM (almost 2 gigs) around to no effect. Awhile ago a buddy of mine said the psu is most likely the problem, and a little googling made me come to the same conclusion. What do you guys think

psu's aren't that expensive. I could have one ready to be installed when the tech guy arrives

When all your RAM goes bad, it usually does kill the video output. It depends on your system honestly PD, do you have a Video Card installed? Is it onboard (as in the video is directly soldered to the motherboard?)? It could be that something is burning out the motherboard itself.

You said you had this problem before? You got a new motherboard and it fixed it?

It's a GeForce 6100 which an embedded card, in the mobo. They've replaced the mobo before and the computer worked again, but for like a couple months

Yeah, your friend is probably right then about the PSU. Something thats not apart of the Mobo seems to be killing the motherboard. That would be the PSU. Problems like that suck though cause it takes time to reappear.

Possibly, if its something other than the PSU. Are you using the same RAM even after the Mobo changes?

Last time the tech guy suggested that I did have some corrupt RAM, which I had taken out of an unused computer at my dad's practice. He removed it after he installed the new mobo I bought a 1G stick of RAM. Now I have that 1G stick in there, as well as the RAM stick that came with the computer. Maybe I should take that one out too?

Try taking out the supposed bad RAM (the one that you've always had) and keep the one you bought inside the PC. One bad stick of RAM could null even the good stick (while its installed). That may fix your issue.

Read this on how to test your ram.

It's slow so run it when you won't be using your pc for several hours.

Haha, awesome news, bitches. Turns out I didn't need to do shit. The dumbass already did the grunt work for me! Turns out he was trying to defrag or some shit, and as he got up, he accidentally yanked out the cables and it hasn't been working ever since.

Score one for the bad guys.  8)
