Ever wake up with a limb completely numb?
« on: April 07, 2008, 04:53:26 AM »
Was going to bed and remembered that twice in the past three days ive woken up early morning without and feeling in my right hand as it had gone completely numb. Thats some bizzare shit to wake up to.

I suppose its better than waking up to a cramp in my leg and knee, which happens once every few months.

I wake up with this mysterious stiffness in one of my limbs quite regularly.

That's pretty weird.  Do you sleep on your side?

Do you have GI problems?  I sleep on my side when I'm feeling indigestion.  I guess you hand could be feeling numb due to your body cutting off the circulation somehow.

In Chinese culture, if you wake up with some kind of paralysis it's because a demon/ghost is trying to crush you in your sleep.  It's literally called "gwai jak" (notice "gwai" is also used to describe white and black people lol).

There's a similar phenomenon in Japanese culture - they call it 'kana shibari' (lit: 'bound as if by metal') and attribute it to ghosts. It would be interesting to do a medical study to see how often it's because of sleeping on one side for too long.

I've woken up quite a few times with my arm completely numb. No kidding, I could chop it off and I wouldn't feel a thing (for a while). Can't even feel it. It's worried me quite a bit when it happens, but it gets feeling back eventually.

It happens to me sometimes as well, and it's usually an arm. Once in a great while, usually when I'm sleeping at the boyfriend's house, I'll wake up and one of my lower legs will be numb.
