So, I'm on warfarin to thin my blood to eliminate the clot caused by my recent pulmonary embolism.
My goal is an INR (international normalized ratio) between 2.0 and 3.0. That's how many times thinner than normal my blood is, i.e. default blood INR is 1.0.
I've been taking 12.5 mg a day, and at my blood test last Thursday morning I was all the way up to 3.3. My pharmacist decided to keep me at 12.5 daily, but drop me to 10.0 on Thursday and Saturday.
Now, I am neither a pharmacuticist or a mathologist, but Warfarin has a 5-day decay time before it gets out of your system. And even I could tell that a 20% reduction in dose 40% of the time--or an overall 8% reduction--was not going to stem the tide of my skyrocketing INR.
Anyways, I got the results back from yesterday, and wow! I'm at 4.5! This basically means that if I eat spicy foods my intentines will leak out all over my spleen. They are freaking the fuck out and all I can do is go, I TOLD YOU ON THURSDAY YOU GOT MY DOSE WRONG.
If I die, please make sure my tombstone reads "Killed by Poor Math Standards."
Internally bleedingly yours,
S.P.
