LoI isn't that terrible. IGN actually gave it a 9 when it came out I think. Check out a level or two.

i liked the combat and some boss fights, everything else was meh. it's better than aos and hod imo.

i can't remember any annoyances like grinding or backtracking, but it's been too long since i played it.

there's only one ending.

It's VERY short (<6 hours if I remember correctly) and backtracking isn't really an issue. It's got a 3d hub world where you branch off into the different levels. Kind of like portrait of ruin, but imagine the hub world is just one room instead of the whole castle.

The game is really not terrible, but it is kind of repetitive.

It's boring.  I beat the whole game, thinking it was eventually going to pick up but it never did. 

The graphics were pretty nice for its time but it probably looks like crap now.

It has a good soundtrack, that's about it.  I couldn't get into it or its sequel and I LOVE Castlevania SOTN-style games.  "Better than Aria?"  El-Oh-El.

what's "sotn" about this castlevania? there isn't much exploration, no leveling iirc and no collect-a-tons. besides, aos is boring and exactly like every other metroidvania with the exception of the soul system, which is nice but doesn't make much difference when it has dumb random drops and you can just kill everything with almost no challenge. oshit new square in the map with useless weapon, i'm gonna use it to kill that distinguished mentally-challenged cigarillo demi x99 and get his aids soul omg

I like it so far. Especially the music.

It's kinda lame that they went out of their way to keep it very CV with the music, the plot, etc. but then made the gameplay a watered down DMC.

I beat it but man was it awful.

Lots of back tracking through empty fucking corridors.

Lots of what should have been easy jumps made hard because of shit camera.

Combat that was generally unsatisfying.

It was an okay rental but I'm glad I didn't buy it. And I didn't even bother with the PS2 sequel.
