I didn't end up liking it. The battles and monsters are awesome, but a 3D world, especially one as hard to navigate, is not ideal for grinding monsters to certain levels. Not to mention the map doesnt take into account elevation, which makes even the first area kind of a pain.

I got the guide too since it was only $11.

Trying to figure out what I had to do to get all the cool monsters in the original version was a big pain in the ass, I figure this is one game the merits a guide purchase. I want family tree diagrams. So if the map is that bad I can use that section of the guide too.

I think it'll be a fun time-passer if I'm taking a train to work or graduate school in the coming months.

What sold it for me was the fast combat I saw in preview videos. I couldn't stand to finish the latest Pokemon because the battles move at a snails fucking pace.

Its not horrible, but I just get easily frustrated if I spend too much time trying to figure out where the hell I am cause the map doesnt make sense. If they did it in 2D with battles in 3D I would have been just as happy.

It's a decent substitute for people who want to play Pokemon, but feel they are a bit too mature for Pokemon yet not too mature for Dragon yBall Z.  Also, unlike every Pokemon game since R/B/Y, DQM is a new game.

Agreed.  Still, there's something to be said for a Pokemon-style game where you enter the first cave and *don't* fight a goddam Zubat.
