I doubt that it'll be a timed exclusive. Capcom haven't done anything like that recently, which is probably why they're making more money with next-gen than most Japanese companies.

With respect to RE5, I agree Croal that the imagery in the game does indeed have a history that cannot be denied or ignored. I would content to those who say the game is "racist" that the intent of the setting is not to stir controversy, and it's indeed sad that we're even having the discussion. There's also a history with respect to the setting of RE4, yet I don't remember hearing any complaints about a white man killing a bunch of spanish people for instance.

Many Japanese people don't have much personal interaction or experience dealing with people of different races, especially compared to Americans or other nations with mixed populations. What's racially unacceptable or divisive to us may just be something funny they saw on television, or on a jar. With that in mind, I'm not offended. Intent is important in these discussions, and I'm simply not convinced the game is "being racist" or whatever simple explanation Sharpton will give it.

i don't think that ignorance or a lack of interaction on the part of the creator can excuse a work for being racist.

Your point is very weak. Products are always aimed at a target audience, which can be either broad or quite specific. Countries with very high percentages of ingenious populations always cater to the majority - there's nothing revolutionary or shocking about that. The Japanese audience doesn't play FPS games, so developers don't make those games for instance. With respect to race, it's not surprising that developers often create characters that reflect what their audience wants to see - ie big eyed gaijins with rainbow colored hair.

In the US Hollywood focuses on white actors because the audience they're aiming it is predominantly white. It's not rocket science, it's basic market principle: supply and demand
