No warranty on HDTV...and I have a problem :(
« on: April 12, 2008, 03:46:44 PM »
I bought a 56" 1080p DLP LED Samsung last September but I never purchased a warranty on it.  I was watching Kingdom of Heaven on BRD a little while ago and I noticed a purplish/blue symmetric shape on the lower middle portion of my TV.  The best way for me to describe it is how old TVs would get fucked up if a magnet was placed next to it.  Anyways, this is only noticable on extremely black screens, but it's really troubling.  I'll get ahold of Samsung or Bestbuy soon, but since I didn't purchase a warranty am I screwed?

My 30" Samsung CRT HDTV has done something this for years, except I usually on notice it on a really light scenes. Occasionally a little reddish/purple blob will appear in the lower right corner. Then it'll be gone, or at least unnoticeable. Then I'll be watching a movie, and it'll be back. It's never got any bigger or any worse, though, so I live with it.

There might be a 1 year manufacturer's warranty on it. I bought a TV from Sears in November and it stopped powering on in January. I called them and they sent someone to fix it for free. Check the papers and shit that came with it when you bought it to see what it covers though. If I remember correctly, Panasonic's 1 year mfg warranty doesn't cover burn-in on plasmas. :(

I hate it so much whenever things like this happen. It seems I too have the curse of having faulty or pessimal stuff.

Yeah, Samsung must have at least a year on it.  Use that.
