It would be a lot more exciting if they released it for systems with online play.
All these compilations are becoming meanlingless to me without online play. Buying KoFXI and Battle Coliseum only reminded me how alone I am as a gamer in this town. Everytime I try to get my friends to jump in and play me for a few rounds they give up and want to switch to Tekken instead. Samurai Shodown 2 can't come to XBLA soon enough.
I don't know if this was confirmed or it's just a rumor, but I heard they cancelled SS2 on XBLA.

Sucks so bad if true.
What REALLY sucks is that all of SNK's PS2 games since 2004-2005 have had online play, but only in Japan. This includes all of the classic game compilations; in fact they're called the "Neo-Geo Online Collection" here. They are restricted to using a monthly pay-to-play service with KDDI for 900 yen a month. I think this applies to all games, so if you have a ton of them, that's not so bad. I'm kind of tempted to try it and see if a decent number of people play online, assuming it works through the PS3.
Just wish they'd hurry the hell up and start releasing these games on 360/PS3. Screw '98 Ultimate on PS2...release it for the next-gen platforms instead with full online. Hell it could be a downloadable title.
But whatever...'98 UM is the last "new old" game. After that it's Samurai Spirits Sen and KOF XII, two games that are definitely going to get next-gen home releases.
