This is potentially an epoch-making milestone in the history of mankind. For the first time I can combine my two favorite pastimes: arguing on the internet about stupid shit, and desperately trying to convince myself that there's at least a theoretical possibility of my being in a relationship someday.

I sort of have my own standards, though. The problem is that I tried to come off as an intelligent poster capable of subtly stylish prose, and pretty much failed miserably. Dunno if anyone but me ever noticed the failure.

I liked some of the posters there. There was one woman whose messages I always enjoyed, more than anyone else's, and when I went to view her profile she had the highest match % of anyone I'd ever seen on the site. Yet more scientific validation of the match system

I actually made IM contact (AIM/yahoo, as all quality women won't use the distinguished mentally-challenged OKC messenger) with a few women who seem pretty attractive and cool and intelligent and etc. through the site, and got on well, tentatively agreed to hang out sometime when I get back to Portland etc. It's not so much that I failed as I just lost all interest in pursuing it further. I actually stopped going on IM so they wouldn't see me. it's not them, it's me.

Oh, just tell them that you're not actively looking right now/make up a lie about finding a local relationship (which will sharpen your writing skillz) and if they want to keep in occasional IM contact without romantic pressure, do that.

I don't know anyone who's thought "I regret keeping communications open with that person."

That's completely not true. But the cases where people did regret are all exes from horribly codependent and emotionally unhealthy relationships. If you've vetted these ladies enough to think they're sane, make a low-risk investment.

Either you're more interested in making this failure a part of your identity as the Socially Dysfunctional Intellectual, or there's an actual problem you want to correct, but you use your recognition of it as a substitute for a solution, rather than a first step towards one.
