Where to Start with DOCTOR WHO?
The Best of the Third and Fourth Doctors

With more than 700 episodes in the original series alone, where should latecomers jump aboard the TARDIS? Sheldon Inkol recommends four Jon Pertwee/Tom Baker classics from the 1970s: "Inferno,"
"Genesis of the Daleks," "The Talons of Weng-Chiang"
and "The Horror of Fang Rock"!

DOCTOR WHO: THE COMPLETE THIRD SERIES
David Kalat pens an appreciation of David Tennant's third season as the BBC's most popular Doctor ever, and Tim Lucas adds a postscript of praise for the season's most acclaimed episode, "Blink"!

Eric, I would like to get into Dr. Who.  I know its one of the longest running shows ever.  Where should I start?  The old series or the recent series?

i'd say start with the new series

it's probably the most accessible to new viewers

The DVD sets are pretty pricey even on Amazon which usually has great prices for DVD sets.

Yeah, start out with the new series, then gradually go back and watch the old series once you get used to what the show is about.

I don't like the new series so if you don't like it don't let it put you off the old series.  And vice versa.

I only watched a few episodes when the new series started and it irked me (and bored me) that out of the whole galaxy (or however far the Tardis can travel), they spent all their time in London.

Just found this out:  In this week's episode, The Sontaran Stratagem, the lead Sontaran was played by the dude that played Mike in The Young Ones.
