is booster gold some sort of illicit substance? It sounds like something out of a bad scifi dystopia novel.

Booster Gold is a loser janitor from the future who steals some superhero gear from the superhero museum and travels back in time with his robot companion Skeets, only since his robot has an encylopedic knowledge of the present day, he uses it Groundhog Day style to stop crimes before they start and develop an inflated reputation for himself, which he quickly parlays into a lucrative career on the talk show and promotional tie-in circuit.

He's totally awesome, at least as redeemed by Grant Morrison in 52 (and continued by Geoff Johns in his ongoing series).

We should actually make a buy-bet thread where we promise "I will buy Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe if it has C-list Character X" in it. :D

They have to call Captain Marvel "Shazam" on comics covers, because when DC comics sued Fawcett (the original publishers of Captain Marvel) out of business in the 1950s, the copyright on the name lapsed, and by the time they brought Captain Marvel back in the early 1970s, Marvel Comics had already established a new copyright on the name

they can call him Captain Marvel inside the comics he appears, but they can't use the name anywhere on the cover

yeah, you would think DC wouldn't care about having fatalities, considering how violent their mainstream superhero comics have been over the last few years

What?  Are you kidding me?  You think they'd make a videogame where Superman could potentially kill Batman?  C'mon.

Quote
There will be two different stories, one told from the side of MK, one from the side of DC, where each universe is invaded by the opposite universe’s characters. Names familiar to comic fans, Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray are writing the story to help lend the proper voices to the DC Characters. These stories will be told in a new version of the traditional single player campaign.

The story will be used to balance the fights more evenly, and will do so using established mythology. For instance, the story will feature magic factors, to weaken Superman against a character like Sub-Zero.

I'm so glad that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe won't break continuity.

Ted Kord was awesome in the prelude to Infinite Crisis.  Too bad I and many other people didn't find out about him until that issue.

I'd like to go back and read those old JLA comics.  I was never much of a DC fan and always stuck with Marvel in the 80s and 90s.  Gave them both up in the mid-90s and went back to the them a few years ago, but then quit reading again when I moved to Japan.  Occasionally I find some scanned comics to download though.  Loved Marvel Zombies.  Anyway, I did find an imported issue of JLA (they started over AGAIN?! It was #18) with a bunch of characters I didn't recognize in it, plus the League was acting like a government-sanctioned organization just like what Marvel has done with the Avengers and the X-Men previously.  Yuck.  When I was a kid, I also remember hating the art (I cared more about the art back then) in DC comics so much.  It seemed like they were still stuck in the 80s during the pin-up bad-pose art of the early 90s.  Now they seem to have caught up.  Ed Benes, man...what happened?

But hey, Power Girl is getting her own series!  Big-boobed blonde haired character in revealing outfit, yeah, been there and done that 209394349032094309 times in comics, BUT it's Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner doing the story and art.   8)

Giffen, yes.  Morrison...I dunno.  I'm not the biggest fan of him.  And when he teams up with Frank Quietly?  VOMIT VOMIT VOMIT.  The weird thing is I loved the Authority when they were doing it.  It was the move to X-Men I fucking hated.

the JLA he did is considered a good run for JLA, but if you're not a morrison fan, this won't change your opinion at all.

looks like the giffen HC is out
