hmm, you're probably right.  Wiki says 3.7 million but it doesn't say where.  I had assumed the list was just talking about US numbers but apparently it's not.

Of course, they were ignoring the reports of shortages that were starting in December, well before anything needed to be spun in the first place.

What's your theory as to why Sony went from leading by 40k to being down by 5k? Hans says PS3 is in shortage edit: 80GB seems to be. Is that discontinued, or are they just phasing out the Motorstorm bundle in favor of a standalone?

Actually what I said was that there should be a HUGE bump in sales from all the pent up demand (if there was indeed a shortage). So, yea ... there was a small bump in sales, but not as large as you would expect given the length of the shortage and the lowered sales for those months.

Not that any of it matters. Neither company is in an enviable position right now. Both have major problems that won't be resolved for the entire generation.

If 360 and PS3 are $299 by the end of this year they can reclaim a good portion of the old PS2 base. if those two idiot companies keep pushing this luxury HD shit then they can forget about it.

Also, I really doubt PS3 sold through 1.9M pieces of software with only 220k in the top 10. Shipped total. A year old console doesn't have enough cheapo-game padding to have those kind of sales fly under the radar, I don't think.

MS is definitely primed to hit $299 sooner rather than later. It totally befuddles me that they didn't do it last year, or haven't done it this month. But Sony went nuts on it last year so who knows what they're willing to do this year.

Though if they stay within 20k of 360 monthly in the US through October I doubt they'll feel much pressure to drop. Japan doesn't matter and Europe is healthy so maybe MS will actually get their time in the spotlight at $299.
