Microsoft's GTA IV spend to match Halo 3

Microsoft has said that its marketing push for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV is going to match that of last year's Halo 3 release.

"Our campaign is the same sort of scale as our Halo 3 campaign last year so you can expect to see and hear a lot about GTA IV on Xbox 360 over the coming weeks," commented Stephen McGill, head of gaming for Xbox UK.

"The campaign starts this week with lifestyle press advertising and hits the TV screens this weekend, running through and beyond launch and we’re confident this will help drive awareness of GTA IV and Xbox 360 with a very wide audience.

"We're naturally very excited about GTA IV coming to Xbox 360, we know pre-orders are going fabulously well and we know consumers are extremely excited about all the great things the Xbox 360 version offers," he added.

Rockstar's title is of course going to be released on Sony's PlayStation 3 at the same time, but Microsoft is keen to point out it has additional and exclusive downloadable content for the game due this Autumn.

"Reviews of the game are now coming in and it’s getting a fantastic response, and the press are highlighting how massive the Xbox 360 exclusive downloadable content will be and how easy and great it is to play multiplayer with friends over Xbox Live," continued McGill.

The game is released on April 29 in Europe. Retailers have indicated that demand for the game could outstrip supply on day one.

I doubt it. Remember Halo had that MNF Add a year before launch. You had combos at BGK, Cars, Mountain Dew.

Its gonna be big. But nothing will be like Halo add wise

But will it sell as much as Halo3 on the 360? Hmmm... I do believe it will.

I DO BELIEVE.

Rockstar is on the record as saying the PS3 version has superior performance. Reviewers agree.

Sony gets all the brand-awareness benefit of Microsoft's push without spending any of their own money. If there's a smarter way to do business, I'd like to see it.

It's probably because of the PS3's built in hard-drive.  GTA games have always been very dependant on data streaming.

YOu must be kidding me. Sony's ad campaign is NOTHING compared to MS'. Once MS has a crazy ad campaign it is OVER. This is a known fact. No one tops MS' ad campaigns. NO ONE.

why are mandatory installs such a big deal? Play with your cat or read something on the internet something while it installs, not a big deal.

it's only a big deal when you want to play the game 1 or 2 years later just for a few minutes or perhaps testing it at a shop or something.

in other words, it should be optional and not mandatory.

sorry, i don't think it's really that atrocious to install games on a hard drive, but it's my preference not to.  it's why I don't do pc gaming.  it's one of the luxuries of console gaming.  the people who usually don't find it a big deal are either pc gamers who are used to it and see the benefit or bitter sfags.

if it's a great game, i'll install it.  i'm not going to avoid the system because of it, but you will hear me bitch.

gta4 ps3 mandatory install doesn't bug me. It's five minutes. If it was just me, I'd go take a piss or take a dump to get rid of body fluids before I do a 12 hour game session.

I want to install my GTA4 360, in fact. But still there's no confirmation. I only want mandatory installs for games I'll be playing for hundreds of hours and GTAIV is a given.

I was at Gamestop today and someone was Trading in DMC4. The manager had to test it(never had them test my games). I was there for about 30mins trying to find the Mario and Sonic game and the guy was still trying to test the game.

that's not how they are supposed to do it, unless he's trading in a console. Then we would test it with a used game, preferably one without a ten minute install.

Anyways, Microsoft is stupid advertising GTA4. Sony gets all the benefits with none of the cash.
