Will any of you console tards be attending this glorious orgy of PC gaming? It's still several months away (July 31 - August 3, Hilton Anatole, Dallas, Texas), but advance registration for the BYOC (Bring You Own Computer) starts April 30th, and will probably be full by April 31st. It always fills up fast. It's worth it to try and get in though, and even if you miss out on the advance registration you can generally still get in if you just show up. There are no fees to get in, it's all totally free.

I went last year, and it was amazing. Hundreds of people playing every flavor of FPS (and the occasional RTS) simultaneously for 72 non-stop hours, fueled by nothing but energy drinks and pizza deliveries. And if you need to take a break, you can hop on the DC++ server with over 100 Terabytes of movies, games, anime, and of course pornography for the having. It was nerd heaven, and I can't wait to get back. This year's going to be awesome with Team Fortress 2 and the full version of Quake Wars being out. They usually have a Guitar Hero tournament, hopefully this year they'll have a Rock Band tournament, that would be great.

Hopefully, there will be some. Last year they just teased it, along with the Wolfenstein movie announcement that made everyone groan.  :lol

I didn't see anyone JOing last year, but I did see some people watching pr0n (plus, some guy left his computer unlocked and his "friends" put Meatspin on it and put his monitor on top of his tower :( ). There's usually at least one cop there, so that's probably enough to discourage most wankers.

I saw a 1TB WD at Costco. The year before they had the same model only at .5TB. It shouldn't be too long until multi TB are available!

If you're going, and you run into John Carmack, tell him to get the Quake Live team to put in Wii controls for it. It's supposed to be browser-based, right? It would be tits if I can log into Quake Live with the Wii Browser, and I can use the Remote/Nunchuk combo to play with the mouse/keyboard guys.  :-*

Less than a week away until Quakecon 2008.  :hyper

If you can't be there in person, you can still watch this 27 minute video/documentary about Quakecon 2007, and revel in all of it's nerdy glory.

I can't imagine ever going to this thing.  I'm moving to Houston tomorrow, and the damn heat index is 105.  The eastern half of Texas is absolute shit in summer.  Not 1 minute of the day is bearable b/c of the fucking humidity.

quakecon was started by quake fans (from tx) and only later did Id jump on board.  Id was founded in tx.  behind california, texas is basically the second best state for technology and gaming.  but yeah, the heat here sucks.

Quakecon's still run by fans mostly. Id handles the corporate sponsorship and the arranges the venue, but the actual event is organized and run almost entirely by unpaid volunteers. And that's why it's completely free, just like the original Woodstock (after the hippies pulled down the fences). :rock

Got just about everything packed up for Quakecon '08. It's gonna be awesome this year, no doubt.

Looking forward to pirating multiple terabytes of anime. And I'll probably play a few games too.

PS I'll pay big dollars for lock of Carmack's hair.  Bonus paid if curly.

Between the two though, I honestly think I have more confidence in Raven's ability to create a good game. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I thought Quake 4 was a pretty good game within the confines of the Quake universe, and certainly a more complete game than Doom 3. Would be nice if we could get some unedited gameplay footage from both games.

I thought both Quake 4 and Doom 3 sucked.  Both have had great games in the past, but those two games were such a let down.
