It was only a matter of time. Having supported both Mac's and Wintel machines in a corporate environment, from my own personal experience, you can easily support the same number of machines with half the staff required to support Windows. Most mainstream applications required in a corporate environment have a Mac counterpart, i.e.: Outlook/Entourage, MS Office 2007/2008, etc. For those few Windows applications that don’t, you can make the applications server based and run them on the Mac via MS Remote Desktop. Windows users were constantly getting malware, viruses, trojans and the like which was nonexistent on the Mac side. Smart, forward thinking IT managers are beginning to see and understand this and are now making a move away from Windows.

With XP at the end of its life cycle and Vista being a useless joke, it’s a great time to move on and away from Windows and embracing the Mac platform. Many people already have and from what I’ve read, the vast majority feel their computing experience superior and much more hassle free to what they experienced when they were on Windows.

This is good and bad for me - see if everyone switches to mac then it will start getting the virus/malware love Windows gets today :(

Since the mid 90's I have not been at a company that did not just keep windows on the server farms and macs on the user desks....

Now the IT hics and dummy users are gonna go and ruin it for everyone.......

:(

i think a large problem will be retraining everyone on the mac interface.

whenever i use one casually, i'm just utterly lost due to ignorance with the platform.

trying to re-train a whole organization just seems difficult

though since most of our applications are HTML based, we have several execs who use MACs and it all interfaces perfectly well.

I doubt it, Abrader.  I've used Macs since high school and the major barrier to entry for Mac has always been their high price.  PC Gaming is also dead on the Mac platform, so that will remain a stronghold for Windows.

Why does Apple still charge ridiculous prices for the same hardware?  A 8800 GT costs $100 more on a Mac than it does on a PC.

Haven't you seen the commercials?  Macs are so much better than anything else in the universe, they're flawless, PERFECT!  You should be so lucky as to only have to pay $100 more for Mac awesomeness.  Now get on your knees and put Steve Jobes' cock in your mouth.  Show me what kind of guy you are.   :hump

We saw this shit over and over about Linux taking over the desktop or what not. In the end, users decided that Getting Shit Done was actually important, and thus stuck with the Windows business OS and the huge number of processes and infrastructure that was built around deploying the OS at that company.

Hopefully Leopard Macs will be able to see Windows Servers, since Leopard installs still frequently can't see windows machines via SMB.  Leopard has been out this long, and there are still issues with SMB.  SM fucking B!

The article just seemed like the typical wistful thinking from anti-MS media.  Every day on sites such as The Inquirer, there are reports of MS's impending doom.

I've been hearing for a decade that MS would become irrelevant soon yet they're still around.

This happens to all industry leaders, though.  That comes with territory.
