ps3 IQ question
« on: April 28, 2008, 01:50:25 PM »
so last night I was setting up my PS3 with a friend and when I put in the component cables and switched to 1080p, XMB words and whatnot looked a little fuzzy.  I switched to 720p, 1080i and it was the same issue.  I've been running my 360 on HDMI and it looks FANTASTIC.  Could it really be that?  I mean, I noticed a difference (mainly in colors) on my 360 when I used HDMI, but nothing like this.  Anyone else encountered the same thing?

I think (although I may be wrong) that it's pretty common for the PS3 in general.  On my TV, I get a couple of seconds of digital "snow" whenever I first load a game or start up a Blu Ray.

Yeah, but how big is the difference?  Over 360 it was noticeable but not huge.  On PS3 it's noticeably fuzzy on letters.  Images look pretty and clean though.

If you're on a different input, make sure you're using the same settings, and that the different inputs don't have different contrast or sharpness.

PS3 looks awesome in 1080i.

Also, my buddy has a 40" Bravia. Whenever you boot the PS3 up, it takes a few seconds for the image and sound to come up over HDMI, same when it starts a game.

Is this pretty common for Bravias?
Yeah, the 360 is on my HDMI and the PS3 is on my first component slot.  The component slot has the same settings as the HDMI because it's what I used my 360 on for a long time.  The settings have been set using the calibration disc deals.

I guess I'll switch my PS3 to the 360's HDMI for a bit when I get home and see how much that clears it up.

I just struck me as odd because the first PS3 I owned looked gorgeous at 720p.

Also, it takes the 360 image a few seconds to start up on component or HDMI on my tv.  PS3 shows up automatically on component.
