The other day, I was surfing the net looking at some sites and I was a bit shocked and disappointed by what I found... Apparently, in Okami for the Nintendo Wii, released last week in the US, the staff credits after the ending have been cut from the game. The fan comments that I read were in English, so I wasn’t sure if I was misunderstanding things, but our localization staff checked into the issue and confirmed it as fact.

I don’t know the details behind why the staff roll was cut... But what do you all think about the issue? I’m not disappointed because my name was removed from the game. Of course, we all have pride in our work; we all want to stand up and say “I made this!”

I'm a big fan of RAD but that's pretty shitty to take credit for something they contributed nothing too.  I could port Super Mario Brothers to a system but that doesn't mean that I created it.

Word has it Capcom is saying the took it out because it was a prerendered movie and included the Clover studios logo, which they are for some reason not able/allowed/willing/whatever to use.  That's a completely shit excuse.  If that was the case, then they could have at least put the names back in just using standard scrolling text on black background.  To remove everyone who built the game from the ground up from the credits is just distinguished mentally-challenged.

First the cover bullshit.  Now this.

Clover said it wasn't great for waggle, and Clover was right. Nintendo fans didnt believe it, and they were wrong. Fuck Nintendo and its fans.

Clover (or whoever was making the decisions) was too up Sony's butt at the time to realize they were making a big mistake. It was painfully obvious the game was going to tank on the PS2. If it had been a Wii launch title, it would have sold a million like Red Steel or Raving Rabbids. Now it's too little, too late.

Actually it had more to do with them wanting to make a better game. The wii version is shit, they knew Nintendo would force Waggle and they knew it wouldnt work.

I still don't know why RAD did this port, they should have just said no to Capcom. Why do good developers waste time on shitty Wii ports?

Because if you have to learn your way around the Wii hardware, better to do it on Capcom's dime than your own.

Also, if you stumble into a hit (which seems totally random on Wii sometimes.  Maybe you put enough horsies and pastel fonts on your cover?) you could make some serious bank.  It's got a huge install base, even if a shitty attach rate.

Also, what makes waggle so bad for this game?  I never played the Wii version but completed the PS2 one.  While playing it, it seemed obvious that keeping the same base controls and adding waggle for the celestial brush would be great.  Did they force waggle on to the regular gameplay controls?

the problem is that while you "think" waggle would be awesome for the brush, in practice it's hard to draw straight lines, circles, etc. have you ever tried to draw a circle on a chalkboard? it's like that.

Disgrunt: Most reviews state that the waggle just sucks for most of the basic manuevers. It works "ok" for the paintbrush parts, but all the rest of the game it doesn't.

Personally, going by my experience with the Wii, I can't imagine the cursor moving fast enough for me in combat. Its always kind of sluggish moving around, and in the heat of battle I know I can't count on MY ability to coach it into a proper shape. Analog just made quick paintbrush movements really easy.

My question still stands, do you have to do waggle to control basic manuevers?

From the gamespot review, they seemed to like it a lot, im trying to recall which mag I read the Okami review I remember. Probably Lame Informer. Looks like the love it for painbrush but hate it for everything else:

Quote
The standard combat controls take some time to get used to. Weapons like the life beads work remarkably well, doing plenty of damage with a forward flick of the Wii Remote. Standard reflectors, on the other hand, may cause you frustration at first, because you can't string attacks together simply by incessantly flinging your remote forward and back. Rather, you need to time subsequent attacks, or your thrusts won't respond as you'd expect. This is one area where the PlayStation 2 version has the upper hand. Certain weapons simply aren't suited to be your primary attack in the Wii version, since the timing of your slicing and dicing is tough to get a handle on. Another area that needs improvement is dodging. On the Wii, you yank the Nunchuk in the direction you want to tumble. The problem is that Ammy may or may not dodge in that direction. In Okami, this isn't a big problem; combat is easy, so you'll rarely need to dodge. In fact, you may even forget you have the option in the first place. Nevertheless, dodging is troublesome, and folks who want to use Infinity Judge or Tsumugari as their primary weapons will need to adjust to picky motion controls.

On the flipside, the Wii controls shine brightly in regards to the celestial brush. You can pull out the brush at any time and use it to slash through demons, create gusts of wind, draw bombs, create impromptu waterspouts, and perform all sorts of sundry tasks. This is Okami's main gameplay conceit, and it's woven impeccably throughout the game, where it's utilized in battles, puzzle sequences, and even some cute minigames. On the PS2, you used an analog stick to draw the necessary rune; on the Wii, of course, you use the remote. For the most part, this works wonderfully. Interacting with the celestial brush in this manner is incredibly pleasing, since you literally draw the motions onto the screen. It also improves the pace of the game, because you can scrawl at a faster rate. Using the remote in this manner has its foibles, particularly when you need to draw a straight line. However, ineffective scrawling can be easily corrected with a second try and a careful hand.

Tho I cannot imagine it scrawling faster than the analog stick, all the times ive encountered a wii mote its been somewhat sluggish.

They gave it a 9.0 :/

Seems like a lot of game reviews give high scores regardless of what is said in the review. Most Smash Bros reviews were this way.
