Why hasn't R.E.M. just hung it up?
« on: May 02, 2008, 01:10:41 AM »
R.E.M. use to be my favorite and for awhile after, one of my favorite bands. I don't think I've bought one of their albums in a decade though and they don't sound like R.E.M. much, but sometiems like U2(eek) or just any average band. They're releasing another album and I just don't know why or what is the point. Feels like they've been releasing the same poprock album for the past 8 years.

Monster is pretty awful too relative to Automatic for the People and their earlier stuff.

Hey, Accelerate's not bad.  :punch But yeah, I read an interview with them and they hinted that this might be the end for them, saying shit like 'we dun wanna be one of those bands that just peters out into crap and then vanishes'. Though whether or not they've managed to do so with their latest depends on who you ask.
