Comic shitnerdfags: A list to argue about

http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2008/04/18/the-top-100-comic-book-runs-master-list/

Enjoy.  I think I can agree with number 1.

I am outraged, OUTRAGED that The Invisibles isn't ranked higher.

I'm heavily biased but damn, this blew me away as a kid. Wolverine has always been my favorite comic hero :bow

Sandman eh? I've never read it, but this list ensures that I'll check it out

Haven't gone back to read my Sandman collection cause it made me sad.  I loved the way Gaiman used the supernatural aspects, though.

I'd like to read a bunch of the big canonical comic books, but it's hard for me even to justify spending money on trade paperbacks that I know I'll like.  They're done so quickly.

Also, hooray Astro City.

I remember getting the first TPB to kill time before a movie, then freaking out at how awesome it was, spending the whole movie thinking about Astro City instead, then going back to the store afterwards to buy the second book.

I don't know enough about comics to know if that's a good list or not, but Bone's on there pretty high, so that's good enough for me.

Wait, how did Watchmen not make the list?  ??? I could see if they weren't counting miniseries, but League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is on there.

Glad to see my personal favorites on the list:

77. John Byrne’s Superman – 119 points (1 first place vote)

65. Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle’s Batman – 146 points (2 first place votes)

59. Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams’ Green Lantern (co-starring Green Arrow)– 162 points (1 first place votes)

39. Mark Waid’s 1st Flash Run – 228 points (2 first place votes)

30. Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson’s Astro City – 323 points (4 first place votes)

26. Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley’s Ultimate Spider-Man – 364 points (3 first place votes)

9. Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis’s Justice League – 742 points (13 first place votes)

7. James Robinson’s Starman – 921 points (35 first place votes)

I have either complete  (or nearly so) runs or trade paperback collections for all of those.  Breyfogle's Batman is still my personal favorite rendition of the character.

well the issue is that these are all good comics and if you're a fan of superhero comics you could do worse than the ones on here.

i'm guessing this was a public vote which is why so much of it is skewed in really odd directions.

i've never ever read starman but i keep hearing about it like it's the most amazing stuff.

there's also some interesting gaps here (the 70s aparo batman, the 60s green arrow / green lantern), some stuff here which doesn't need to be here (Geoff John's JSA), but again for a publicly voted list on the internet, it could have been a lot worse.

I was pretty fortunate to be a young kid collecting comics while John Byrne was doing the X-men and then Fantastic Four. Also, collected toward the end of Frank Miller's run on Daredevil (from about issue 175 on). Glad to see other people have fond memories of those comics.

Then puberty hit around the time Secret Wars II hit and all that crossover stuff ruined Marvel. Perfect timing.

According to the blurb, there were only 700 responses, but with that said, I'm surprised that many classic Batman arcs AND The Watchmen didn't even make the list.  Same goes for From Hell.  Maybe From Hell is excluded because it was only ever a TPB (right?), but no Watchmen?

Green Lantern Co-Starring Green Arrow is featured, just look at my post. :P

I'm glad From Hell wasn't on there, it's incredibly overrated.  I have no real problem with the list, though the absence of Watchmen is pretty curious.

It was a pleasant surprise to see the Grant/Breyfogle Batman run on the list - I'm glad I'm not the only big fan of that particular run - it's part of what got me into comics in the first place (along with the Aparo/O'Neill pairing on...was it Detective Comics, or Batman?  I have a feeling it was the latter, while Breyfogle and Grant did Detective).

Naw, there's more than one - Gotham Central, Grant/Breyfogle Batman, Englehart's Detective Comics.

Watchmen was a miniseries, and as I look at that list, I mostly see very long runs by a single creator or a particular team.  Miniseries might not have qualified.

i ctrl+f'd the list and only saw one Green Arrow run.  odd

That's what I was thinking at first, but League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is on there. It was only two runs of 6 issues.

I think that falls under the Hellboy clause.  Alan Moore plans on continuing it.
