Sandbox genre in danger of remaining crappy through 2008

Far Cry 2 to be gimped for the benefit of smooth porting to shitty shit shit consoles, infamous still unseen, and now Prototype has been pushed to 2009.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6190361.html

Oh well, maybe that will give them enough time to get online co-op in.

FUCK

I saw the title and thought it was about a Prototype delay, then I saw the whining about Far Cry and felt relief because fuck Far Cry, and then I saw that I was right!

FUCK

EGM is supposed to have a preview, right? And someone who should know just told me that it's going to be shown at Gamer's Day, but who knows.

Still, as cool as that game probably will be, will it have zombie surfing? I think not.

Saint's Row 2
Mercenaries 2

Seems OK to me. Mercenaries was the best sandbox game of the last console generation IMO.

Flawed, but stupid fun.

The biggest problem with JC, imo, was the lack of variety.  Just the same village liberation over and over again which was pretty disappointing 'cause you had this absolutely MASSIVE enviornment but very little to do outside of the main story missions.  They gave you all this room to play in but all it was good for really was to fly around and check out the scenery...which admittingly was pretty awesome to look at.

I really think JC could be a cool series with a little more polish and hopefully we'll get that with JC2.

WTF!?!?!? Prototype was super playable at GDC this year, there was NOTHING that suggested it wouldn't come out this year.

Oh wait...it was only running on the 360 :gloomy

That's what I'm hoping. I mean, the game seems made for online co-op. I toss the corpses, you surf 'em.

Just Cause 2 looks nice enough.

Far Cry 2 = dumbed down console shit.

Prototype = piece of shit.

MIRROR'S EDGE IS WHERE ITS AT

Far Cry 2 is, indeed, dumbed down console shit. Prototype, however, will kick ass. There's just no fucking way that it could fail to kick ass, not with those guys making it.

And I thought we had established that Mirror's Edge isn't a true sandbox game? I know it's early over there, but come on now. Have some coffee and think it over.

Dunno I've seen pretty much all Prototype movies and this game does nothing for me, nothing at all. Looks like another crappy Spiderman/ Hulk/ Superhero Crap sandbox title and those, well, usually suck.

But hey, I don't like Dead Space from screens either... and I love Dark Sector from trailers.

The Xbox/PS2 Hulk game these guys made was awesome, dude. Total, insane destruction. And sometimes, that's all you need.

I thought KZ2 was delayed to 2009? I thought I got that info from a Sony fan, SolidSnakeX or something.

Oh, it probably is delayed. Not officially though, I think. Although...

GT5P, LBP, MGS4, Resistance 2, Haze, MotorStorm 2 and Buzz are the key pillars for 2008 on PS3, says Hirai.

Well, only 2008 games are meant to be shown today. That was the final confirmation that Infamous was delayed.

edit: Oh wait, I thought that quote included Killzone. Is that the old quote or did Kaz just say that during Sony's presentation?

Oh, I'm referring to Killzone 2. And to clear it up, he just said that Killzone 2 will launch in February 2009.

Hey Borys, there's a Mirror's Edge realtime trailer coming this week to PSN. Presumably, it's also coming to every gaming related site you can imagine.

Check out my SCEE Gamer's Day thread. Mirror's Edge is the most amazing, wonderful, beautiful thing that has ever been created
