I don't have a computer for game-playing much like I don't have a wheelbarrow for fly-fishing.

What games did you get to break it in?

Oh yeah: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.73 Ghz, 1 GB ram, 120 gig seagate (my 80 gig fujitsu died in the middle of three papers) and a webcam.  Might upgrade the ram since it's always plugged in.

Crysis is prob the most demanding game vid wise that I've got.  I'll have to pick something else up too. :hyper

These cards seemed pretty freaking awesome.  They're single slot and $170 each.  Check out this vid on their tigerdirect page.  :drool

I saw a video of the main character grabbing a Korean and jumping off the top of a tower.  It was a tiny .gif and I've never felt such vertigo.  Do that right away.

I could do that in RL here at work if I wanted to.  There's some Korean doctors office downstairs. :lol

"Can I see you on the roof for a minute?"

"What?"

That's a case of video games not creating violence but creating morbid curiosity about what happens to Koreans when you throw them off roofs.

I could do a scientific test cause we've also got a bunch of Japanese people downstairs and I work with an Indian and a Taiwanese man.  You and I could win a scientific prize or something then drown ourselves in champagne and man touching.  :-*

wow @ that case.  why do "cool" pc cases always have an air of gamer-dude kitsch about them? (sorry, OP.)

my insides:
8800GTS 512mb
2gb ram
Core 2 duo 2.66ghz
on board sound

solid rig, nothing too special, but it doesn't bat an eye at anything but Crysis, of course.

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
160GB hard drive
Double-layer SuperDrive

Doesn't crash.  Doesn't overheat.  Quiet.  Good stuff.

I also have a 4 year-old Alienware Area 51m laptop.  3.2ghz Pentium 4 w/hyper threading.  1GB memory.  50gb hard drive, and DVD-RW combo drive.  It's incredibly noisy.  Has crashed often.  Overheats all the time.  It's quite heavy (you need a BACKPACK to haul it around!) I don't play many PC games so I was glad to get back to Mac OS and a smaller, lighter laptop.

I like my Antec P182 special editon but it's kinda small for a power rig.

Are there any good, large cases that can fit all kinds of water cooling equipment?

Coolermaster Cosmos (geek porn; in looks, it's the casing equivalent of a super exotic sports car)

Silverstone Temjin TJ07 (simply huge, and has room to spare in all directions)

Thermaltake Tai Chi (a monster; comes with built-in water cooling, but might be discontinued)

The Cosmos is not much bigger than the P182.  I actually ask fellow EBers if I should have gone with the Cosmos instead but surprinsingly most people prefered the more business-like P182.

The Silverstone looks awesome.  CoolIT actually uses that case for its best cooling system.

It's about $800 though.  I'll like to get one when I start making money.

Prole, your PC should last 1-2 yrs more with a quad-core upgrade.  Unless you want to do SLI, you probably don't need to upgrade your videocard.

Only the 9800GX2 is faster as a single card solution and it's buggy compared to regular SLI with 2 videocards.

I'm not sure, I don't really have any PC games. I doubt that it can handle any of the newer games, but I'm pretty sure that it can run WoW if that's what you're wondering.

No wonder you tend to buy PC version of games.  They probably run as smooth as butter.

I basically have Lyte's Macbook as well.  I'm going to upgrade the internal HD and the ram to 4 gigs.  I might also install XP on a partition.

SLI has been improved greatly in the last couple of months, especially for vista.   It works great for most games.

For example, SLI helped me go from an unstable 30-60fps in COD4 at 1920x1200 w/no AA to a steady 60fps at the same resolution with 4xAA.

You might need more than 750W for SLI, especially since you have so many devices.  The 8800 GTX is a power hog.

The Q6600 is a bargain for what it does.  EVGA offered me an upgrade to 780I which is compatible with the 45nm Quad-cores but the 780I seems like a stop gap solution.

The 680I/Q6600 should last me for another year or so whenl DDR3 prices and boards will be more reasonably priced.

Am waiting to get a USB keyboard tonight cause I'm a tard.

If you plan to game with your rig (with CF'd 3870s I doubt you're using it for Word alone) get a decent non-ghosting keyboard. The premium is a small price to pay for maintaining your sanity in the heat of gaming.
