Yeah, I'm not really sure why I bought my iPod Classic, considering my last three iPods all died of unnatural causes within 18 months.

I am an Apple whore and how. :/

Any news on the Zune front?

Condolences. Did you have your music librabry backed up?

*glances on Ipod classic and prays it won't die*

Yeah, I'm good with backups, at least for the things I care about.

This would be the last straw for Ipod if anyone else offered a decent mp3 player of comparable size :(

My old 80 gig still sort of works, but the battery dies on a full charge after an hour.  This Classic is also my third iPod that has had serious problems that have driven it into uselessness.  Apple is terrible about planned obsolescence with iPods.  They release a new model every year, just in time to replace your old dying one.

I could get by on 80. but I don't wanna buy if there's gonna be a fall hardware refresh

also, I have a continuous music collection dating back to my first MP3 in 1996

it's survived two complete harddrive crashes by absolute strokes of luck -- no more luck!

I'm sure there will be, although I haven't heard any rumors.

I've only owned a second gen Nano.  Never had any problems.  But I did lose it at the gym.  :'(

iPod.

I refuse to give their crap-quality product line the sort of respect that consistently typing its name implies.

I love my iPhone. I've had to return it for a replacement 4 times, and I still love it.

First gen Apple products tend to have more hardware kinks than should be tolerable.  I usually wait for second revisions of Apple products before biting.  This was not case with TVC's iPod unfortunately.

Might want to give a second thought to the Zune:
http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/05/07/microsoft-may-build-a-copyright-cop-into-every-zune/?ref=technology

Did you miss the Update?

We have no plans or commitments to implement any new type of content filtering in the Zune devices as part of our content distribution deal with NBC.

Eh, that's a smartphone for you.  I went through the same kind of shit with the Treo smartphones a few years ago.  When we went to Sprint to see what they could do, there was a guy there who was on his ELEVENTH Treo 600.  :o

The video ipod was a big deal for me because it was the first time I could hold up porn clips in English class and scare my friends.

Everybody's saying that phones will be the future but I disagree.  If I take my ipod on a trip, I can listen to it while traveling and then call somebody from my destination.  If I use my phone to listen to music, I'm running down my phone battery and if I call somebody, that's fewer songs I can listen too later.

You discount cell phones as future do-it-all devices because of the shortcomings of current technology?  You're assuming we never create better methods to power such devices!

Sometimes I lie in bed, awake at night, thinking of having a wireless router that also transfers power wirelessly.   :-[

I just think that as long as we're stuck with traditional lithium ion batteries, I'd rather have two dedicated devices rather than one.

If I don't have a laptop and don't plan on getting one in the next year or two, but I do have wifi, how much would I appreciate the ipod touch and it's browsing features?  Is it a novelty or a handheld pc?
