Heavenly Sword, modern button masher?

i mean, does the game require any skill?  so far, i can just randomly press square and triangle and kick ass.

also, the framerate sucks.

pretty fun though

Yes, it does require some skill.  Later on, you'll face some enemies that almost won't be hurt unless you do some countering.

The countering gets really annoying at times because you have to switch stances before countering, which is very counterintuitive.

Also, the jerky framerate gets even worse in the later stages and might throw off your timing.

There are the special moves, I guess you have to time those right or something. Weirdest blocking and fighting system I've come across though.

Yeah, it's like they wanted to incorporate Ikaruga's color system into a 3d brawler.

Pretty strong 6-ish material there.  A fine rental but nothing more.

the core game only really gets better then decent at the final quarter of the whole damn thing, which is only 6-7 hours long, tops.
The music, motion capture, graphics, all the technical stuff is pretty top notch.  Makes it worth a play, even if the game its backing up is only at best, sorta good.

From what I played, it takes a little more finesse then something like God of War.

It struck me as a game that no one would give two shits about if not for the graphics (frame rate aside) and perhaps the story.  I think I put maybe 30 minutes into the game before I stopped.  One day I'll go through it.

Nariko having an English accent still bugs me.

in the first cutscene, all the voices were like a few seconds ahead of the lip animations.  annoyed the piss out of me.

They resynched the lips for all the languages supported on the disk (like five of them, holy Blu-Ray).  The German voices are not bad BTW.

The final sequence would have looked really awesome if not for the technical issues.  I wish they had made it a video instead or at least included a video in the bonus materials.

You're on crack.  Uncharted was fuckawesome. :D  Heavenly Sword seems eh at best right now.

Demi: How much QTE is in HS?  I HATE (!) QTE's.  I know they're supposed to keep you on your toes or whatever, but they just piss me off.

Oh well, getting NG:S as well today.  Although I won't open it until I beat HS.  I didn't open HS until I beat Uncharted.  That's how I'm going to go with all my PS3 games since well... I need to use my game time on the PS3 more sparingly.  On the 360 I can switch between games and whatnot and be perfectly fine because I always have somethign else to play.  Not so much on the PS3 :(  (unless I decide to play a bunch of shit I'm not interested in).

The graphics did seem pretty nice.  The lighting seemed... odd though.  Anyone else get that feeling too?

Also, the only God of War I've enjoyed was the PSP one and I only played it for a few hours before tossing it to the side.

There are also some QTEs during counters against some of the tougher enemies.  Some of them were really annoying because they require precise timing yet the framerate hinders you from doing so.

QTEs suck when they're abused, like in God of War, on the minotaurs in particular.

I'll play HS when I can get it for $9.  The demos were some horrid trash...especially the Kai demo.

Ugh, I'm not liking this game.  I'm going to push through.  I decided I won't buy NG:S until after I beat HS.  If I buy NG, I'll never go back to this.  This game is pretty meh.  I hope it gets better.

The Kai segment with the arrows was terrible and controlling them with the Sixaxis is omgwtf bad.  Same with the catapult.

I don't get why so many PS3 games are still so expensive.  It's not like Motorstorm is still selling like hotcakes.  I'd have given it another look if it were going for $29.99 or so.   Now, I'll just wait for the sequel.

You can find MotorStorm a lot cheaper than that. I bought a new cop off of Ebay for $30

That said, it's an exercise in frustration. There are racing moments there that you won't find in any other game, but the road there with its insanely long vehicle selection load times, that's torture. If they fix that in MotorStorm 2, it's bound to be awesome. But I'm not buying another unfinished game.

yep.  definitely liking it more now.  now that it has some depth and is somewhat challenging.  the characters are fairly interesting and the villains voice work is pretty awesome.  Nariko's is terrible.  Other characters seem to range from really bad to really great.

I liked it, there were some neat things they did, like the final Boss fight, the way you fight those hundred upon hundreds of NPCs in a controlled and restricted environment. Cut scenes were great (well, the first and the last one). I thought the story was handled better than God of War (2), which was too much "I'm so angry" and got a bit ridiculous. Weta did a nice job with the presentation/cut scenes. Gameplay was ok for the duration of the game, but I'm not a hardcore fighter (got stuck at those floatng fishies in Ninja Gaiden on the xbox) so I'm not that hard to please in that regard. I restarted it after I finished it and there were some nuances I picked up on and I wasn't just mindlessly button mashing and I felt I did what I wanted to do. I only rented the game because it was so short and beat it in an afternoon, but I did get my money's worth. Don't know what price it's at now.

Not necessary.  Blu Ray was worth it.  Games are sugar on top.

I finished the game yesterday and I really loved it towards the end.  Game got a lot less frustrating and just more fun to play.  The beginning was still terrible, but I really loved it.

Tieno: Yeah, the final boss was pretty awesome with all the NPC's getting flung around by our awesome might.
