Patel's ideal version of The X-Files would star some pompous British thespian and Grace Park as Special Agent Scully.

I actually initially wrote Doctor Who, but quickly edited it to pompous British thespian, because I didn't think you'd be predictable.

It's not based on the television show!  It's inspired by the television show!  Duh!

It's inspired by easy fanboy dollars! Adding Doctor Who and Grace Park is just giving the fanboys more of what they want!

Chris Claremont was responsible for making The Uncanny X-Men great and also horrible.

I kind of pictured Neil Tennant while I was reading that because I didn't know who you were talking about until I googled it. Then I thought Chris Lowe would make a semi-decent Scully too.

ha.

What an unbelievably dull trailer.

.

I was happy when I heard it was going to be a standalone, but that looked boring as all hell.  I wanted a GOOD standalone movie, not one based off the shitty c-list filler eps of the series.

A lot of people PREFERRED the shitty c-list episodes to the rest of the series

Some of my favorite episodes are shitty c-list episodes. So THERE.

I have my pet shitty c-list episodes, too.  I was just hoping for a movie that would be more overtly interesting.  This looks as boring as the Scully Remembers She's Religious genre of X-Files episodes.

I was kind of hoping that this movie would have a monster or something.....instead of a missing girl, a crazy old coot, and some people experimenting on bodies.

I had my fingers crossed for a good alien yarn.  A non-conspiracy related alien yarn.

I kinda hope they reboot the series.  I can pray.

Yeah, those do kinda suck.

I think this will be good though. No X-Files for nine years sort of helps that. Honestly, I'm such a fan that unless they fucked over every character or had the T-1000 have a prominent role in the film, it will satisfy me on some level.

I recently got that big box set, and the series really does go downhill fast after season 4.  Season 5 still has a fair share of good eps, but after that, it's like a wasteland, with only a scant few noteworthy episodes per season.  Usually when an ep is good though, it's REALLY good.  The just chose to focus too much on the borderline incoherent conspiracy.

Serialized dramas have learned a lot of lessons over the past 2 decades, and th X-Files was the source for learning a lot of those lessons.  Buffy for the most part took a bit of the X-Files formula and introduced seasonlong arcs.  I'd like to see a new X-Files series do that.  Either that, or go the Doctor Who route where there is continuity, but it isn't all that important.  X-Files went with a SERIES-long arc, and unfortunately, it wasn't planned from the beginning, so it just ended up a terrible mess.  Maybe a new series can take a cue from Lost, and plan the arc from the beginning, and end the series when it's supposed to end.

Amen. More people should do what Lost is doing. Most amazing TV continuity EVER.
