the main reason i stopped doing self checkout is OLD PEOPLE. everytime i did it some old person would ask me to help them, and offer to pay me the change. and then when you help them and say "no thanks, you don't have to pay me. i'm just helping out" they're all like "but i didn't really need help like that, i needed services and you should be paid for services to me. i can take care of myself you know!" i just chuckle and walk away

mostly nay for a few reasons
1. most people have no idea what the fuck they are doing when using them, causing lines
2. in my experience something always goes wrong with the machine and the designated person watching over them has to fix something

I should pay less for my items if I'm in self checkout
there is a grocery store here where you bag your own stuff, the prices are really low because of it

Nay

The automated voice for most of those self checkouts are so loud that I become very self conscious when using them.  When the other side of the checkout lanes can hear the automated voice, it is time to turn the volume the fuck down.  Instead, they might have made them louder instead.

Having worked in retail for a while, most checkers don't give a flying fuck about what you buy or don't.  They hate the job and by association, you, so much that they don't care if you're buying a douche, Trojan Minis, or Immodium AD.

Watch out for sneaky baggers.

I like self-checkout, but I only use it if I'm buying 10-15 things.

Self-checkout and gay marriages?  WTF is happening to good, ol' America?

Do I have to move to the South or Midwest to live the American way of life?

Thats the only time youre supposed to use it. They still generally direct people with carts of stuff to the normal check out lanes.

I've seen a couple places that have no-limit self-checkout stations.

it really irritates me when folks with carts packed with shit go through self-checkout, because they are roughly 1/4 as fast as the slowest-ass checker, and the POINT of self-checkout is to get us impatient folks with a few items through asap. fucking anti-social soccer moms what don't wanna talk to a checker!

I always see clueless people at the self-check station. I know it's awful of me, but it drives me nuts.

I don't get why they still have baggers at some self-checkouts

doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of, you know, "self?"

I like it but I can see why some people would get pissed that the store isn't doing their own job.

Yeah, really...  There was an old guy ahead of me in self checkout a couple months ago and he was just staring at the screen for a while so I stepped up to see if he needed any help and he just snapped at me!  I mean WTF?!

Self checkout would be fine if I didn't have to wait for the pimply faced teen working there to check my visa signature. ends up slower than getting them to run it through anyway

He was in the WAR. He flew a plan over GERMANY and killed NAZIS. How dare you try to help him out? The pretty lady with the numbered buttons on her face just didn't notice him.
