Getting caught shoplifting.

Not caring enough about my grades.

Sometimes caring too much about things like the SAT.

Being a crazy ex.

Not taking my cat to the vet sooner.

Edit: What was your mistake? You need to share, too!!

I had my car turbocharged a couple of years ago and all has been well and good but the fact is it isn't reliable enough to use for my daily driver so I'm forced to buy a second car which I really can't afford.

Still, I don't regret doing it because I would have done it eventually.  Live and learn I guess.  Franky, I'm glad that's the biggest problem in my life right now because it's an indication that things are going well otherwise.

Probably not caring about school as much as I should have

I don't think I've made a really bad mistake that I can think of though.

Well that was the worst part of it, because I was stupid about it, and I was on vacation with my friend and her family when it happened.

Father Mike, I often wish I wasn't such a loner, too. I'm just perpetually uncool, which in turn kind of makes me a loner I guess.

What is this? The emo corner? Grow up. The only mistake any of you have made is having regrets. Find pride in all that you've ever done, because you've already done it, and that's it.

I've done stupid shit in my life, but I had fun doing it while I was doing it, and that short moment of joy is all we can hope for when most of us can't see a week ahead in our own lives to plan for success in the long term.

My grades are all Cs in High School now and have been since I left the 5th grade, and if it fucks me over in my future, you have my word I won't blink. I had fun, and that's all that matters in life. Make the most of the time you have.

Sorry if I'm coming off bitter, but sulking in your own shit doesn't go very far to improving self-worth. Excuse the old adage, but it's truer than the blue of sky, "Don't cry over spilled milk."

just so it doesn't make the one I just made seem so terrible

list them here:

It's difficult to pinpoint one big mistake.  I've made lots of little mistakes, but picking out a worst is a bit difficult.  At the root of many of those mistakes was probably my youthful impulsiveness, which I no longer have a problem with for the most part.  On a more emo and slightly more specific note, I'm very good at cutting off personal relationships with people, and it's lead to destroying a few relationships that I wish I still had.  The flip side of that coin is that I'm generally more true to my convictions than most people.  The bad with the good.

I also don't like how remorseless I am.  I don't know how that came about, but I believe it allowed me to keep making the "little" mistakes I did.  I realize I am remorseless, so I don't generally talk specifics about these sort of things.  There's this inverse paranoia where I'm not quite sure how much remorse or regret I should show, so I instead don't show anything at all.

27 as well and my biggest mistake so far is... well... not taking out the garbage that one rainy day at Funcoland. But considering all that I learned from life after that point I guess it was for the better.

I don't think EVERYONE is sulking about their mistakes.  There is a difference from making mistakes and regretting that they were made.  Overall I think a lot of people can agree that mistakes shape you into the person you are today - I don't think everybody here is "sulking in (their) own shit" though.   :P

Biggest mistakes of my life...

being afraid of things for little to no reason, I have many phobias some of which I have gotten over, others I have never tried to outgrow. I will definitely need some therapy, although I suppose some of these phobias are not my fault, but letting them get to me is.

An event as a child I regret, although not my idea (not that i can justify this), pushing a friend of mine down a small hill in a burn barrel of sorts. He cut his arm rather bad and had this pretty big scar there for the rest of his life. Yes, that definitely strikes me as number one on my list.

We were friends long after said incident, which he didn't blame me much for, but other things happened that I could not put up with and I decided to stop being his friend. I saw him making too many mistakes, things I did not want to get caught up in but they unfortunately led to his death.

Relative to perception. To me, this thread looks like a big escape for crybabies, to you, people are simply recalling mistakes in their life. I'd like to agree with your view on what this thread is for exactly, but when you recall a bad mistake, or in the case, one of your WORST, things tend to go south as far as self-worth, since most people just vent when they make the mistake and then forget about it.

Reopening the proverbial wound.

Wow, lots...

-drugs in highschool made me give up on grades beginning in 11th grade.  Halfway through 10th I discovered smoking weed on a regular basis and it escalated highly from there.  I passed 10th grade fine but "only skipping a class" and "only a B" was okay in 10th grade and in 11th grade "miss a whole week of *insert class* is alright" and "only a D is alright".  I feel REALLY dumb about those last 2 years.  I also got careless and got someone pregnant senior year.  That actually straightened me back out, but the damage had been done.

-Cutting off a relationship with a friend for my own selfish need and their suicide.  I realize I'm not completely at fault for it.  I was simply a factor.  but knowing that I could have helped and seen the signs instead of being selfish, I might have been able to help her.  that bugs me a bit.  But that helped create the emo Mupepe I know and love.

-Aaaaand last but not least... working so many hours married could have made life a little easier.  Not saying it would have saved my marriage or made it better, but it would have made it a little less of a hell hole.  Although ironically, that's what I was trying to escape from.  I can see it from both point of views.  I was trying to provide money for my family and do right by them.  Can only do that in shitty jobs by working shittons of hours.  But I also was never there.  I worked 7 days a week and usually 12-16 hours a day.  Holidays I would leave get togethers early because I worked that night.  Oh speaking of, it was a graveyard shift.  I can see how that might have been frustrating for her.

-Oh and also getting caught shoplifting in Tennessee with my brother.  Fucking Spencers of all stores!  christ, what was I thinking?

not going staying in college is a regret, but jesus christ the first year was just so goddamn boring.

it was like...high school all over again.  not worth my time or my money because high school sure as fuck wasn't.  i mean, several of my teachers had me lead classes on topics.  when i can cover something more succinctly than the text, it really adds to the whole "why am i here?" attitude.

though now, 12 years on, i should have just stuck it out.  but then there's the fear of ending up like my friends who have college degrees then do fuck all worth while.

Definitely quitting school to work a shitty retail management job.  Ugh.

Fortunately I'm going back to school this fall, but that's like 10 years after the fact.  Sigh.  Oh well, I had some fun along the way too.

I regret not being able to finish school.  It doesn't quite count as a mistake since it was something out of my hands, but I do consider it a mild mistake that I haven't gone back now that I have financial means.  It's just something that's tough to do when you have to work full time.  And now, I'm working on rectifying it, but it's kind of stultifying how long things will be dragged out since I can't dedicate myself to school full time.

In 5 years: not going to law school

I want to get my MBA, and then become a CPA. But honestly accounting/business is boring. In the back of my mind a voice tells me to go to law school and also major in political science.

Sometimes I kinda wish I went into law enforcement.  It would have combined my love of violence with my love of owning people and controlling them.  Or maybe I've watched too much Bad Lieutenant.

law school is kinda boring but there are some courses that are pretty neat--like criminal law. i owned that course so hard.

i really love history, and if i didn't care about money--not that i'm gonna make big bucks with my law degree--i'd do that

I hate NYC, though, although I guess that hatred could have been used to make my job even more interesting.

most likely

it would have made you angrier and more bitter, which you could have leveraged into more and more heinous crimes against humanity and decency.
