New DDR Home Versions/Rock Revolution revealed by Konami
« on: May 17, 2008, 04:56:07 AM »
DDR X (PS2), Universe 3 (Xbox360), and Hottest Party 2(Wii)

If you want to see a bunch of pics of them, Konami's got a lot posted on their DDR Community website here.  The games are more or less the same DDR games we've seen at home for the last few years.

Also, Konami didn't mention this or anything but there is a PS3 version in development that's still a year off (most likely Fall 2009).  They are keeping the "main" DDR series on the PS2, and the PS3 version will be another spinoff more or less like the Universe and Hottest Party series.  I'm not entirely sure why the PS3 version isn't being released this year, but I'm guessing it's either because they are having trouble developing on the PS3 or (more likely) they are waiting for the PS3's user base to increase.

Now onto Rock Revolution - Konami is jumping on the GH/RB bandwagon and is basically Americanizing their GF/DM series.  The game will have guitar, bass, and drums, but no vocals.  Drumset will be different than both Rock Band and GH's (meaning there will be 3 different drum sets out in the market, which seems stupid).  Right now it's unknown if the guitars from GH/RB will work for the game.

Drumset looks like this, 6 pads plus bass pedal-

Songlist will consist of 40+ songs plus DLC content.  Announced songs are these-

Quote
Scorpions - No One Like You
Quiet Riot - Cum on Feel the Noize
Skid Row - Youth Gone Wild
Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood
Heart - Magic Man
Diamond Head - Am I Evil (could be Metallica's cover)
Whitesnake - Still of the Night
Soundgarden - Spoonman
Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop
Kiss - Detroit Rock City
Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It
Blink-182 - All the Small Things
System of a Down - Chop Suey
Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills
Wolfmother - Joker and the Thief
Foo Fighters - All My Life
Korn - Falling Away from Me
Papa Roach - Last Resort
The Killers - Somebody Told Me
Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi
Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl
Muse - Knights of Cydonia
Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
Joan Jett - Bad Reputation
Jimmy Eat World - Pain
Pantera - Walk
Ratt - Round and Round
Dream Theater - Pull Me Under
Deep Purple - Highway Star
The All-American Rejects - Dirty Little Secret

Also, all these songs are covers.

You can read more about the game here -

In a nutshell, Rock Revolution is going to fail hard.  I'm a big fan of GF/DM but this is completely different and launched a few years too late.  Fewer songs than RB/GH, all their songs are going to be covers instead of master tracks, PLUS gamers are going to have to shell out a shitload of money to pay for the game.  It's sad to basically see Konami actually rip off of Rock Band and try to cater to the new found American audience these games have brought.

Covers, no vocals and proprietary instruments. Sounds like a Nintendo idea.

Why can't I get Dance, Dance or some Jimmy Eat World in Rock Band or Guitar Hero?

Is there any cross compatability between Guitar Hero IV/Rock Revolution and/or Rock Band?
Rock Revo might have a chance iffin it does, but nobody is going to buy a third set of fake instruments if it don't.

Wait, check that.  They just need to price it 30 bucks cheaper and reap the profits from all the cassuals.

The design doc for Rock Rev says that the aim is for the game to be compatible with the Guitar Hero 3 and Rock band hardware. I know they demoed it with Guitar Hero 3 guitars and at work we've tested the drum parts with the Rock band drums. I think at this point the only real issue is probably legal issues or whatever.

If this is true, I'm in.  I'm not touching the new Guitar Hero, but if this is compatible with new Rock Band, I'm in, even if they are shitty covers.

How would you play the 6th note on the Rock Band drumset?

Guitar Hero will forever be tainted by shitty note charts, I can't go back to that now.

RR = epic FAIL

So many things wrong here.  Konami had a real chance to scoop the whole market, and now they are playing hella catch-up.  I certainly hope that someone at the home office who decided not to follow up on this because licensing real Western music for the American market was 'too hard' got fired with extreme prejudice.
