Doctor Who Episode 4x07 - The Unicorn and the Wasp
« on: May 17, 2008, 06:23:08 AM »
Also known as "The Agatha Christie Episode"

Looks loads better than the previous episode. I was very disappointed. Daughter episode should have been a two-parter.

In all honesty, I think it was the terraforming that might have resurrected her, not an actual regeneration, but whatever. Easily the worst episode of the new season. The Sontaren episode should have been a one parter and the daughter episode should have been a two-parter.

Looking forward to the next episode though... looks extremely interesting in all aspects.

So far, everyone that's seen this episode has said good things, and there have been several variations of "it's not qhat you'd expect."

Also, there is a week break after this episode for Eurovision.

I generally like the historical-esque episodes better than the scifi ones, heh.  I am kinda hyped for this.  I am also impressed that they have managed to keep silence on Moffat's eps.

Me too. Except for "Blink" of course.

This is brilliant so far.

Donna: Solving a murder with Agatha Christie, thats like visiting Dickens on Christmas eve with ghosts around".

Doctor: Well...

I liked it, but it seems to have the same problem of a lot episodes -- the Doctor Ex Machina.  The writers introduce a bunch of ridiculous mumbo jumbo that doesn't really make much sense in the last 10 minutes , and then use said mumbo jumbo to resolve the plot.  It seems extremely sloppy, particularly in the context of a murder mystery where the audience is supposed to put together the clues.

But hey, people ate it up without complaining in every Star Trek series ever,

I allow dues ex machina if the force responsible is just that capable to begin with. Like a character such as Q, who really is just a deus ex machina/trickster. He bends rules, can do whatever, but that is his role. I just hate it when anything and everything can do stuff like that. Recurring aliens in Doctor Who at least are held to their explanations more than once, instead of just being one time whatsthatnowguvnor magic. Normally the aliens do have a trick tot hem, both powerful and weak, so it works out.

Either way, this episode was better than the last and the preview for next week looks good.

This episode is more Clue than it is Agatha Christie.  I get the idea the writer hasn't read much Christie.

I rather liked that episode.  I think with a bit more polish in the third act, it could have been excellent.

Leagues better than the last episode. Definitely more Clue than Christie though.  However, that sort of brought its own charm to it at the same time. Not as good as the Pompeii episode though... that was probably the best episode this season so far.
