haha no

Slayers is harmless. The OVA has some stuff with Naga but even then its so absurd its obviously not there to get anyone excited.

Yay Slayers! I think I'll finally sit down and watch Try in a couple of weeks, but first I need to run through Next's episodes since it's been a while the last time saw it. It's also one of the few animes where I felt the english voices were as good as the Japanese. I don't have a specific favorite episode but I thought the build up at the end of Next was really well done, especially when

Yeah i've grown really attached to the dub work for the tv series, plus some of the translation changes theyve made are pretty funny on their own. Lisa Ortiz doesn't get that insane furor down as nicely as Megumi, but everything in between has more personality. I credit a lot of this preference to my inability to descern tone within japanese speech. Plus Zelgadis' dub voice is done by Crispin Freeman, who has done probably as much awesome dub work as megumi has done native work.

The OVA I could go either way. Megumi > Cynthia Martinez here for sure, but Naga's dub laugh > sub imo.

SLAYERS  :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat
I own all three seasons and the seven discs that ADV has issued. I'll probably at least get the reissue of Next since the encode on the CPM release is so fucking horrible.

Oddly enough, I just picked up season 1, the OVAs, and the movies a few weeks ago. I'd been wanting to watch it for a long time and then suddenly I just decided to go pick them up off of Amazon. I'm really glad I did.

Also, I like the OVAs and the movies better than the series proper. The Lina/Naga team is a comedy goldmine and the series is at its best when it doesn't take itself too seriously.

The sound is re-mastered by the video is pretty much the same. Still, they crunched it downto 4 discs instead of 6 and the packaging has 10x better art. I noticed the first set they did some new overlay work for the intro in the dub and it came out looking really not good, but after the intro is over it looks fine again.

BOGGLE.

I've always preferred the TV series, mostly because Amelia is one of the funniest supporting cast members ever. The OVAs are for the most part good, with Jeffery's Knighthood being the best. The few of the movies fall flat with maybe 2-3 of them being legitimately good (golem, elven weapon, squid monsters) while entries like Slayers The Motion Picture end up falling pretty flat.

Revolution should be pretty good, everyone involved in the first three series are on board here.

Amelia and her bandit father are always great fun. They're like a super sentai show gone horribly wrong. :lol

It's been a while since I saw Slayers: The Motion Picture, but I remember not being overly impressed with it. The OVAs and the movies you mentioned are great, though.

The trouble with Slayers The Motion Picture, a unique issue, is that they tried to go serious and emotional, and they had no real capacity to handle their own time travel plot device either.

The rest of the movies are at least entertaining and at best, fuckin great.

--------------

The first 9 eps of the first series isn't bad, but they tend to be the most 'serious' and it doesnt really get fun till Amelia shows up. I actually skip the first few eps of the first series sometimes. However, the first eps are important in explaining some of the rest of the series, but they do flashbacks anyway.

Slayers is awesome. I was quite surprised to find out that I've grown quite fond of the english dub, though I really don't care for the chick who does Lina in the OVAs.

Good thing they didnt let her whip out the ol L o N whenever she wanted, it woulda been SSJ4 or whatever. Talisman Amplified Ragna Blade was probably her most powerful, sensible spell since it cut through the astral plane like the ra tilt and had at least a fraction of the power of the giga. Dragon Slave became her comic relief character blaster after ragna showed up.

Currently on episode 4 of the original series, enjoying it much more than I have any anime in the past year or so, even with the sub-par animation (but I love the art/character designs).

A question: When should I get around to watching the movies/OVAs? After I finish all three seasons, sprinkled between seasons, anytime I want, etc.?

Anytime you want, they take place before the tv series (except slayers premium, that takes place between next and try.) and the only mention of things from the OVA in the tv series are inside jokes.

Went to Best Buy today to look at new TV's and then waltzed over to the DVD section to find Slayers Try. Unfortunately they didn't have it but I did find a an entire collection of Slayers OVAs for only $14.99.  :D

I also eyed the third Tenchi OVA that came out recently and have been kinda skeptical on checking it out due to some bad word of mouth. Any Tenchi fans here that have seen it?

Going through pretty slowly, just finished episode 10, which I'm assuming is the end of that first story arc. Still fun stuff, even if it turned more serious by the end of the storyline.

I also just realized I get the Funimation channel and it plays Slayers like every day of the week, cool.
