Valkyrie Profile Lenneth: discussion

so whats EB's opinion on this game?

demi said: worst rpg ever

but I picked it up anyway. Ive never played the PS1 original. Presentation and sound are absolutely fantastic... VA is max cheese and doesnt really fit the dark tone of the game but sort of works in some weird way.

Gameplay is absolutely brain busting, had to read a faq to figure out exactly what the general strategy was, and I was blown away by amount of options and character development there is. So Im going to keep plugging at it... not sure if Im even going to be able to finish it, it seems like you gotta play 2/3rds of the game to get good at it then replay it so you do everything right.

Looking forward to playing more tonight, but the game is still ?/10 for me.

You MUST read a FAQ if you want the best ending - which is also the worst ending I've ever seen

I'm playing the game right now on PSP as well.  I'm enjoying it.  It's not super great, but solid.  I agree that the game does a terrible job at explaining all the systems and options since it doesn't really follow typical RPG conventions of gold, inns, and such.  Even the manual is lackluster in that regard.

I was playing on Normal, but I quit and started playing hard.  It's a much better experience on hard--more characters and dungeons.

Is the sequel worth tracking down?

I hate that vine dungeon too. I love the game so much though. For some reason it never gets old to me. I know the game so well too, that I can finish it a lot faster now than my first playthorough(s)

Wish that S-E hadn't sold out and started developing another VP game on shitty DS hardware. What a waste.

I just ordered it via Amazon.  Gotta love one-click.

I dug what I played of VP2, but only got a couple of hours in and got sidetracked with other stuff.

I think I'll get to it again once Im done with the PSP game. Being a dirty poor gives me heaps of time to catch up on my PS2 games and replay 360 games for achievements lol

I tried playing it two summers ago but got stuck trying to do some jumping trickery for what probably wasn't that great of an item and then I quit.

The whole needing a faq thing keeps me away from it.

The original VP is one of my favorite games of all time... enjoyed the sequel but was a tad disappointed with it, mainly due to storyline. And I liked the battles in the original VP a bit better since they went faster. Stick with VP, once you study FAQs and get the hang of playing, you'll absolutely love it... but it's definitely a very obtuse game being that there was nothing else like it on the market, in terms of gameplay, when it was released.
