GTAIV should have gotten 11/10 because it's better than perfect.

I know, I know. Apparently, I need to devote a good 10 hours to "GTA IV" before I start to "get it." My Xbox 360 got the dreaded Red Ring of Death hardware failure over the weekend, so that’s stopped my progress for now. (Msnbc.com is a joint Microsoft - NBC Universal venture.)

Speaking of mature, for a game that’s been lauded for its "Oscar-caliber" writing, I found it to be downright juvenile at times. Rockstar, the developers, have made lots of improvements in this game. The physics are spot-on. Visually, the game is stunning, with wholly believable environments. But the jokes are still straight out of the 15-year-old-boy gag book.

Bububu...better than the Godfather, plays like a interactive Martin Scorsese film.  :(

Not really. I think I have less than 300.

I'm 90% in and it was good but it lacked the charm of VC and SA by being too serious. Great game but over-rated.

Worse than Halo 3, which wasn't even the best FPS released that year?

Halo 3 is not rated as highly as GTA4, whether or not its a worse game.

GTA4 isn't the best game released of all time, that's for sure.

So the backlash has begun.

the backlash began when the game was delayed a further 9 months, and everyone with a brain knew that the game was going to be really, really shit

Yeah, it's good, but I think most reviewers were blinded by all of the bloom lighting. Aside from the multiplayer and some gameplay tweaks, it feels like a game that I've played before...several times.

GTA4 is a damn fine game, but it is far from perfect.

I still don't see how Rockstar never once questioned the poor driving model.  I am all for adding realism to the car handling, but they fucked up driving almost as bad as GRID did.

another 8/10 quality GTA game given perfect reviews. how can you give a game a perfect score when it has blatant control problems?

answer= $$$

Halo wasnt rated this highly. Halo didnt get ridicoulous hyperoble. Stuff like THIS IS BETTER THAN OSCAR WINNING MOVIES THIS WILL MAKE FELLATIO ON YOU

And you know what. Halo had Forge and Theatre. Really Innovative stuff.

So yeah. Halo wasnt as overrated as GTA4 was.

I think Halo 3 is even more overrated than GTA4 is.  Maybe not as much by the critics, but by people on message boards it seemed like it.  Actually, there is an example of it in your post.  People keep saying that Halo 3 had innovative/original stuff like Forge and viewing replays, but that stuff has been done (and done better) by other games in the past.

I never really played any of the other GTAs before, and I'm really liking GTA4, but it is hardly a 10. Maybe like a 9.5.

Not on consoles.

And aside from online melees nothing is overtly broken in Halo. And there is a strong cadre of people who have always hated on Halo, far larger than the GTA hate (just by virtue of being platform exclusive).

And Halo isn't the highest rated game ever. No comparison.

Forge/Theater havent been done on consoles. And theatre is much more than jsut "viewing replays"  saving movies. taking pictures uploading them to your service record to share with friends.  Its so well made. Its ahead of its time on consoles, and quite honestly the best part of Halo (imo).  Hell i was playing Multiplayer GTA4 with some friends and the first thing i said to myself. This really needs Halos Theatre

While the Halo series does get a lot of hate (I want to make clear that I did like Halo 3) for being console exclusive and all that, it also gets an overwhelming amount of love for the same reason.  It isn't just Halo, it is also things like Resistance on PS3 getting a lot of love and all that nonsense.

and it shouldn't matter that Halo 3 was the first to do some things on consoles (it still wasn't the first even on consoles).  I play more console games than I do PC games, but I am not about to treat consoles like the slow kid in class and start celebrating when he managed to write his name at the top of the page.  If you want to narrow it down to 'Halo 3 was the first to do all these things well and on consoles and in the FPS genre', then I guess that will work.

but yeah, it is kind of a joke that GTA4 is the highest rated game ever.  I don't think there is a perfect/flawless game out there, but there have been a number of games better than GTA4 in the past.
